Reviewer: KnowIG (talk) 21:02, 5 February 2011 (UTC) Fantastic article. You can link things more I think.[reply]

  • First time you mention Jamacia as a cricket team link you haven't done so.
Linked in lead.--Sarastro1 (talk) 21:50, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Link some of the other cricket teams.
Done as many as I could see, there may be others but main ones done. --Sarastro1 (talk) 21:50, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also Middlesex county is that the county side from GB if so link.
It isn't; there is no article to link to. --Sarastro1 (talk) 21:50, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Link first class.
Done. --Sarastro1 (talk) 21:50, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • a West Indian batsman against an English team. Link to England the country.
Don't think this is necessary. Linking this would be overlinking as everyone who reads this will know what England is, and the Test team would not be an appropriate link here.
  • West Indies tour of England link teams. Test series link.
Linked the tour, not sure what you mean by Test series link. If you mean link the Test series article, I don't think they exist. --Sarastro1 (talk) 21:50, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Summeries. Link your terms, teams and countries but it's not going to stop me from passing it.
All done I think. --Sarastro1 (talk) 21:50, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Another minor but annoying thing apparently you need &nb sp; instead of a space in between number and measurement.
Not sure where you mean here. I don't think there are any measurements in the article, and MOSNUM says only use nbsp before a SI symbol. --Sarastro1 (talk) 21:50, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Done. --Sarastro1 (talk) 21:50, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That's about it. I'll let you impliment the little changes before I pass KnowIG (talk) 21:17, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the review, I've split it up into seperate lines to reply. I've covered everything, I think. --Sarastro1 (talk) 21:50, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Good I'm passing. And also good luck with the FAC is assume you'll take it to that KnowIG (talk) 21:59, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Worth mentioning?

[edit]
  • In 1998, Haslingden chose him as the best player of the club's history, as part of the 'Beyond the Boundary' exhibition on the Lancashire League.[1]
  • Politician, former Jamaica captain and member of the West Indies Cricket Board of Control Noel Nethersole was instrumental in getting Headley appointed as captain of the West Indies team.[2]

I think the first one is definitely worth a mention, and I stuck it in. Not as sure about the second one. It seems that each club just chose one player; it is not clear who chose or how much thought went into it. As it does not say which other players played for Haslingden, I'm not sure it's that great an accolade if the next best player was Joe Bloggs of Blankshire! Also, it does not seem quite as prestigious as the other "awards" he received. However, feel free to argue! --Sarastro1 (talk) 19:49, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not going to argue, I think you're right. They perhaps just chose the most famous player to have played for them and, as you rightly said, it's not as prestigious as other accolades he received. I thought about these facts while (partially) reading this article because I remembered them. In the same vein, to mark the 75th anniversary of the first Test cricket match played by the West Indies, Headley was voted as one of the five best Jamaican players of all time and then selected by a panel that included Richie Benaud and CMJ as one of the five best players in the West Indies' Test history.[1][2]

OrangeKnight (talk) 20:16, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Similarly, added the West Indian part but left out the Jamaican part. It's a bit shoe-horned in, but I think it works. We'll find out soon, as it's currently at FAC! --Sarastro1 (talk) 20:29, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Some other facts, but it could be over-detailing to mention that: until Phillip Hughes scored centuries in both innings of a Test cricket match against South Africa some 79 years later, GH was the youngest player to do so![1] What about the "White Headley" nickname of Bradman? (even more over-detailing, maybe). Something that could highlight why the emergence of a world-class Black batsman in the West Indies is so crucial is the fact that West Indies cricket inherited from a situation where good batsmen where generally white and good bowlers generally black because, in the plantations, at the end of the 19th century, white owners batted while black employees bowled at them. I agree Hughes info may be over-detailing. I'm not sure about the "White Headley" as I've never seen anything to indicate that this was contemporary (unless I'm overlooking something obvious) rather than a later writer trying to be clever. I'm more interested in who called him the "Black Bradman" and when. I think the question of why WI batsmen were white is probably beyond the scope of this article, which is already quite dense. Your reasons are spot on, but I might add other ones such as the "supression" of black batsmen in favour of white ones, as there are several early black batsmen who never gained recognition but were pretty good. But I don't think we could fit this in here. --Sarastro1 (talk) 21:05, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
