Fairness Issues?
[edit]I looked for any news article about the so-called conjecture mentioned in this article about the fairness of the competition and found none, so if no one can find a citation from a reputable source to support this statement soon, I will remove the section and move the only verifiable info (the actual numbers of participants) into another section. Mr.Z-mantalk 01:14, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
- Its been a week and I can't find any source to back the information about fairness issues so I am removing it. Also, it would be very difficult for someone to sabotage the other tem as the section suggested as they would have to have an IP address in the other country. Some GA advice
[edit]I'm not going to review this article as of yet, but one thing I notice in the FAC that I think is really important is that, as LuciferMorgan I think pointed out, there's nothing about what the Geography Cup has really influenced as a result of its existance. GA's still require that an article broadly covers the subject, and I think that many reviewers aren't going to like that a thing like the impact or lack of impact isn't mentioned anywhere in the article. Surely there's got to be something? Homestarmy 15:30, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- I looked all over during the FAC and couldn't find anything. According to one source, there was supposed to be a press release and I emailed one of the site's creators about it. However, I have not been able to get it (if it evn exists). I'm just hoping now that it will be seen as comprehensive enough for GA standards, as every other aspect is covered. - Well, if there's really nothing, I don't think a reviewer would fault you for that if you can prove reasonably that there's nothing, it just seems sort of weird to me, it sounds like a kind of interesting event.... Homestarmy 02:25, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- All right, I've listed Geography Cup as a GA. You're going to want to address the comprehensiveness concern before you take it to FAC again, but the article as it stands meets all the GA criteria. Good work! - AdelaMae (t - c - wpn) 23:03, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

GA Reassessment
[edit]- This discussion is transcluded from Talk:Geography Cup/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.
In order to uphold the quality of Wikipedia:Good articles, all articles listed as Good articles are being reviewed against the GA criteria as part of the GA project quality task force. While all the hard work that has gone into this article is appreciated, unfortunately, as of September 23, 2008, this article fails to satisfy the criteria, as detailed below. For that reason, the article has been delisted from WP:GA. However, if improvements are made bringing the article up to standards, the article may be nominated at WP:GAN. If you feel this decision has been made in error, you may seek remediation at WP:GAR.
- There are several dead links, including the main one given in the infobox.[1]
- This article seems to be about a one-off event that took place in 2006, not about the "Geography Cup" in general. Either the title is wrong, or the article does not adequately cover its subject.
- Tenses seem to be all over the place: "The Geography Cup was sponsored by A Broader View ... It is also sponsored by ...". "The Geography Cup is an online, international competition ..."
- The article contains far too many very short paragraphs.
- What has been the impact of the 2006 event? What are the chances of the event ever being run again?
- I don't believe that this article adequately covers its major topics even when considering only the 2006 event.
