Extended-confirmed-protected edit request on 16 November 2023

[Palestine is not a state. We wish it was and it may be one day, but as of now that info is factually incorrect. Why?] 2601:249:8780:6530:3429:C77D:3FBA:24B4 (talk) 07:11, 16 November 2023 (UTC)

  • What I think should be changed (format using {{textdiff}}):
The Hebrew name of the city is ʿAzza (עַזָּה) – the ayin at the beginning of the word represented a voiced velar fricative in Biblical Hebrew, but in Modern Hebrew, it is silent.

The Hebrew name of the city is ʿAzza (עַזָּה) – the ayin at the beginning of the word represented a [[voiced pharyngeal fricative]] in Biblical Hebrew, but in Modern Hebrew, it is silent.
  • Why it should be changed: This is the correct phoneme.

Please include the Hebrew name of the city in the first sentence of the article. Obviously, this is a controversial topic, however I think that it should be included here. Also the article Kharkiv includes the russian name. Iron armour (talk) 17:20, 20 December 2023 (UTC)

Not done for now: Please provide the Hebrew name before this request could be considered. Lightoil (talk) 02:19, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
The Hebrew name is עזה (Aza). With niqqqud, it’s עַזָּה. -Iron armour (talk) 09:57, 21 December 2023 (UTC)

Please include the Hebrew name of the city. It’s עַזָּה, and romanized Aza. I have requested the same in the past, but the request was rejected due to the fact that I didnt state what the Hebrew name is. Iron armour (talk) 11:25, 23 December 2023 (UTC)

 Not done: per MOS:FORLANG. M.Bitton (talk) 15:25, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
Why is the name of the city in Hebrew not “relevant”? -Iron armour (talk) 16:04, 23 December 2023 (UTC)

Extended-confirmed-protected edit request on 27 October 2023 state of Palestine

Hi Wikipedia, please be accurate and write Palestinian territory. There is no recognized State of Palestine 47.17.67.172 (talk) 21:37, 27 October 2023 (UTC)

The request asks to clarify the status of Palestine as a territory since there is no “state” of Palestine. The UN has not recognized Palestine as a state, notably due to its connection with Hamas and terrorism. For accuracy, you need to change “State of Palestine” at the end of the sentence to “Palestinian territory.” You might add at the end: “though statehood has been offered five times since 1947, the plans have been rejected each time by Palestinian leaders.” ProResearcherCite (talk) 02:07, 27 December 2023 (UTC)

Image in infobox

Hi all, I was wondering what people's thoughts were on updating the image for the infobox? I fear the current one doesn't accurately reflect what Gaza City looks like today. Per WSJ: According to analysis of satellite data by remote-sensing experts at the City University of New York and Oregon State University, as many as 80% of the buildings in northern Gaza, where the bombing has been most severe, are damaged or destroyed [1] Maybe the lead image should look something more like this:

Thoughts? CarmenEsparzaAmoux (talk) 17:48, 31 January 2024 (UTC)

Maybe could have a split image where the left half is before the war and the right half is after the way. That way people don't think it has always looked like rubble. Em3rgent0rdr (talk) 18:20, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
Yeah, that's a good idea. CarmenEsparzaAmoux (talk) 18:22, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
Can you find an image of what Rimal looked like before the war? I think the best idea would be to replace the image of Downtown Gaza from 2007 with an image of the same location before it was destroyed. HadesTTW (he/him • talk) 18:37, 8 February 2024 (UTC)

Image of destruction should be moved and a general image of the city should be used per Wikipedia:Recentism 172.99.147.181 (talk) 00:49, 25 March 2024 (UTC)

Ancient Egyptian Name

The article currently states:

According to Shahin, the Ancient Egyptians called it gḏt, "Ghazzat" ("prized city")...

(originally added in this edit in 2009.)

As far as I understand, Mariam Shahin is not an academic researcher (she is a filmmaker and a journalist, without a Wikipedia article about her); neither ancient Egypt or etymology are her areas of expertise, and the book "Palestine: A Guide" is not an academic research. I don't think this is a reliable source on the subject. 2A0D:6FC2:6C71:6C00:749F:EA20:5036:E5E7 (talk) 20:19, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
