Relative clauses, anyone?

This page does not refer to gapping in relative clauses, which is an important aspect of linguistics. For example:

The person [I saw yesterday] went home

In this sentence, there is a 'gap' in the relative clause where the object of the verb 'saw' would be if it were a normal sentence:

[I saw the person yesterday]

This is known as a "gapping" strategy -- actually referred to as such at the article on relative clauses -- and should therefore be mentioned here.
