Deputy Mayor Position
[edit]The deputy mayor position has been added to the Galloway Township, NJ article for numerous reasons. The first and foremost reason is because the individual whom is selected for the position was elected by the town council to serve in that capacity. A second reason, is because the deputy mayor in Galloway Township, NJ is charged with creating and heading numerous committees and subcommittees such as the Economic Development Committee. A third reason, is because the deputy mayor signs of on all important financial and legal documents alongside the mayor of Galloway Township, NJ. The three reasons provided above are only just a few examples of what the deputy mayor does in Galloway Township, NJ. Not having the deputy mayor in the article's infobox is nonsensical as the position holds an important place in Galloway Township, NJ governmental affairs. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Djbutala93 (talk • contribs)
- John Nance Garner described his role as Vice President of the United States as not being "worth a pitcher of warm spit." The position of deputy mayor is worth far less, perhaps a full tanker car of warm spit. The mayor in Galloway Township presides at meetings and signs documents on behalf of the township. The administrator operates the township on a day-to-day basis. The clerk is designated by the state as being responsible for maintaining various public records. The deputy mayor may have assigned roles in the event of the absence of the mayor, but other than that the only power specifically delegated to a deputy mayor is the ability to perform marriages. After further research above and beyond the work I had done before, the deputy mayor position is not worth mentioning in an infobox, nor is it mentioned, if at all, in the articles for the 564 other municipalities in the state. Your edits to update the 2014 positions in the township needlessly removed several sources and in reinserting those sources the infobox was made consistent with the 564 other articles, listing (at most), the mayor and clerk, as well as the administrator (if one exists). As a rule, no deputy mayor, no deputy administrator and no deputy clerk is listed in an infobox, even though all of these deputy positions may have some role in the absence, incapacity or resignation of the mayor, administrator or clerk. It is worth mentioning in the text of the article, but I see no reason to include it in the infobox. As your arguments haven't convinced me and as I have a hunch that you remain equally and oppositely unswayed, may I suggest that you make your case at WT:NJ and convince other editors of New Jersey articles that including a Deputy Mayor is a good idea. I will leave the infobox entry untouched for the immediate future to allow a consensus to be reached for the inclusion of the information in the infobox. I hope that this approach will address your concerns. Alansohn (talk) 14:58, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
- To answer your response. First off, we are not discussing John Nance Garner, we are discussing Galloway Township, NJ. I therefore ask that you remain on topic and do not resort to sarcasm. Just because the deputy mayor is not mentioned in articles for the other municipalities in the State of New Jersey is not sufficient reason to leave it out of this article. EVERY ARTICLE ON WIKIPEDIA IS ENTITLED TO BE UNIQUE AND DOES NOT HAVE TO FOLLOW A SPECIFIC FORMAT OR THE FORMAT OF OTHER ARTICLES. You clearly have not done your research in the correct areas because if you did, you would have noticed the numerous important functions that the deputy mayor does in Galloway Township. I will not make any case to WT:NJ as there is a large conflict of interest. You greatly contribute to that project and with me presenting my case to them, they will only rule in your favor. I am only open to discussing this with another third party who is not a member of WP:NJ. You agreed to a consensus months ago and violated that consensus without no cause whatsoever. You did not address that in your response along with all of the broken links to sources.
