Hello, hello, I'm Cody and I work with G-III. I posted a COI disclosure in the template above and on my user page. I have a few small edit requests for the infobox that I'm hoping editors can help me with:

  • Industry category: Can we change "Retail, clothing, accessories" to "Fashion, apparel" as these terms are (a) more accurate / less reductive descriptors and (b) currently used in the article to describe G-III's business and operations.
  • Key people category: Can we remove the Wikicoding around Morris Goldfarb?
  • Products category: Can we change "Clothing" to "Apparel; accessories" as again these terms are more accurate / less reductive descriptors.
  • Revenue category: Can we ADD this category, along with the figure "US $3.23bn (FY 2023)". We can cite G-III's most recent 10-K or a news article that includes this figure.
  • Number of employees category: We can update this figure to "3,600 full time; 1,100 part-time (2023)" and again cite the most recent G-III 10-K.

Hi. I came across your request and while I don't have much knowledge/interest about this industry I do appreciate folks being candid about COI and following policy and I think that should be rewarded.

Brands update request from G-III

Hello all, it's Cody again from G-III. For this new request, I have a proposed update to the Brands information. The list on the page is out of date and confusing, and there are no sources for the whole section apart from our website link.

I want to make this more robust and encyclopedic, so I have a new draft to replace that current unsourced blurb and list. The draft is all sourced and presents the current brands in a table with relevant details about when G-III acquired the brand and whether they are owned or leased. I'd also suggest renaming this section to "Portfolio".

Portfolio: to replace Brands

G-III owns and licenses more than 30 global fashion brands,[1] and maintains licensing agreements with major U.S. sports leagues and more than 150 U.S. colleges and universities.[1][2]

@G-III Cody apologies for not communicating sooner. As I think you know, we are all volunteers here so sometimes it takes a bit of time to get around to tasks like this.
I had a look at what you wrote and in general I'm OK with adding it although the language at the top about "all the major U.S. sports leagues" is a bit over the top promotional language and needs to be dialled back unless there's a secondary source itemizing which leagues are major.
I appreciate the attempt to locate reliable sources including secondary sources for most items. However, I have some concerns about the citation to the press kit. While primary sources aren't off limits for factual matter, that usually means something published, say, via corporate filings or in announcement-type press releases. A press kit seems a step below that. Is this information somewhere else with a bit more credibility to it? If any other editors have a view on this I'd be happy to hear it.
Again, sorry for being out of contact. I'd appreciate your feedback on the above. The material is in good shape so it could be added pretty quickly once my concerns are resolved. Oblivy (talk) 10:19, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there, User:Oblivy, thanks for looking at this. I recognize that you and other editors are volunteers, so let me again express my appreciation for taking the time to help me out here. Regarding the introductory language, would just saying "maintains licensing agreements with major U.S. sports leagues" work? And then for sourcing, could we use the most recent Form 10-K? (Before there was only one citation, and it was to the G-III website.) I'm working on another request that I'm hoping you'll be able to take a look at as well, though again I do understand that you're a volunteer editor and may be busy elsewhere. I really appreciate your critical feedback, as I want to ensure that every request I'm making here is serving to improve the article while following Wikipedia guidelines. Operations section request from G-III

Hello again, Cody from G-III here. I'm still waiting to see if editors can take a look at my logo request above, but in the meantime I wanted to post another content request, this time about adding an Operations section that could be placed between the existing History and Brand portfolio sections. This new section would cover basic operational details about the company (e.g., what does it do, where is it located, who leads the company, etc.). I looked at other corporate pages and this kind of information is pretty standard, although the specific section name seems to differ.

G-III Apparel Group is an apparel company.[1] The company designs,[2] sources,[3] manufactures,[2] markets,[4] and sells[5] women's and men's clothing, outerwear, hats, jewelry, and other accessories under licensed, owned, and private label brands.[6] The company also licenses its owned brands for other products[7] and partnerships.[8]

G-III is headquartered in New York and has international offices in Canada, China, Italy, Paris, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.[9] G-III distributes its products through freestanding stores and shops along with international digital channels.[10] The company also sources and manufactures products with global partners.[11]

Morris Goldfarb is the chief executive officer of G-III.[12] Sammy Aaron is the president, and Wayne S. Miller is the chief operations officer.[6]

History section request from G-III

Hello hello, Cody from G-III here again. I know editors haven't been able to get to my previous two requests yet, but I'm back with another one, this time for the History section.

The current History section has only two sentences, which seems quite short for a publicly traded company that was founded in 1956. As such, I've been working on an expanded History section that more comprehensively covers the company's origins, expansion, and growth:

Early history

The company was founded in New York's Garment District in 1956 by Aron Goldfarb, a Polish-born Holocaust survivor.[1] In 1972 Goldfarb's son, Morris, joined the company, which was then known as G&N Sportswear[2] and specialized in leather outwear.[3] Morris immediately helped the company diversify and expand its sourcing.[4]

In 1974 the company was reorganized as G-III Leather Fashions, Inc.[5] In 1981, G-III launched its Siena Leather division, which offered more fashionable women's leather apparel.[6] In 1986 the company was generating revenues of $20 million,[7] and by 1988 G-III was one of the largest importers and wholesalers of leather clothing in the United States.[8]

In 1988 G-III partnered with football player Carl Banks and reached a licensing deal with the National Football League to design and manufacture leather team jackets.[9]

Public offering and expansion (1989-2004)

In 1989 G-III's revenues were nearly $100 million[10] and the company operated a branch office in Asia.[11] That same year, G-III became a publicly traded company, listed as G-III Apparel Group, Ltd.[12]

In 1993, G-III extended its licensing deal with the National Football League.[13] Over the next several years, G-III reached similar deals with NASCAR,[14] Major League Baseball, National Hockey League, National Basketball Association, and major colleges.[15]

In 1995 G-III reached a licensing agreement with Kenneth Cole to produce and market outerwear.[16] This agreement was followed by similar licensing arrangements[17] with other brands.[18]

In 2002 Morris Goldfarb's son, Jeffrey Goldfarb, joined the company.[19]

Acquisitions and further growth (2005-present)

G-III completed a series of acquisitions and licensing deals in the mid-2000s that added prominent brands to the company's portfolio while expanding production capabilities.[20] In 2005 G-III acquired two privately-held outerwear businesses,[21] Marvin Richards and Winlit, that held licenses for apparel produced under different brand names, including Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger.[22] The company then began to diversify its offerings beyond outerwear and into new apparel categories like women's dresses, sportswear, and performance wear.[20] In 2007, the company acquired the Jessica Howard and Eliza J brands.[23]

In 2008, G-III acquired assets from retail outlet chain Wilsons Leather.[24] These assets included 116 outlet stores, online retail operations, and a distribution center, and the deal marked the company's first large-scale venture into retail.[25] That same year, G-III acquired the company Andrew Marc.[26]

Further acquisitions in the 2010s[27] and 2020s[28] increased G-III’s portfolio of owned brands and allowed the company to expand globally while increasing its direct-to-consumer distribution channels.[29]

In 2012 G-III acquired the luxury swimwear brand Vilebrequin,[30] which became the first international owned brand in G-III's portfolio.[31] The following year it acquired footwear brand G.H. Bass.[32] In 2015, G-III entered into a joint venture with another luxury brand, Karl Lagerfeld, to create and launch the Karl Lagerfeld Paris label in North America.[33] The company acquired Donna Karan International, the parent company of Donna Karan and DKNY, in 2016.[34]

G-III acquired French fashion brand Sonia Rykiel in 2021.[35]

In 2022, G-III acquired the remaining stake in Karl Lagerfeld.[36][37]

In 2023, the company announced licensing deals to design, manufacture, and distribute Nautica[38] and Halston.[39]

Wayne S. Miller stepped down as chief operating office in July, and Dana Perlman was appointed to the newly created chief growth and operations officer role on December 5.

Can we replace Wayne S. Miller with Dana Perlman in the infobox's key people category?

Mr. Miller is also mentioned in the last paragraph of the Operations section. Maybe we just remove that second sentence ("Sammy Aaron is the president, and Wayne S. Miller is the chief operations officer") and only keep the first one noting that Morris Goldfarb is the chief executive officer? So the new paragraph would be:

Hi there Wikipedia editors, Cody from G-III here again. I'm genuinely appreciative of the help I've received so far. I hope you'll agree that this article is now much, much better than it was before. I have one more request that I'm hoping someone can review. After all the changes to the body of the article, it would make sense to revise the introduction to be reflective of this new and updated content. As such, I put together this revised version that could replace the existing intro sentence:

Most company articles start with something like "X is an American company that..." Additionally, I'm not entirely sure whether the "150 US colleges" part needs to be included in the lead.
