Alleged Connection
[edit]This page needs to reference the man; it is not conclusively proved he is this coded spy. This page is better blank than a POV redirect. Daemon8666 15:31, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

Stakeknife vs Steakknife
[edit]This has come up again. On the Stakeknife page I previously included a footnote:
- The code name is most commonly given as Stakeknife, but is sometimes written as Steakknife or Steak Knife. Liam Clarke, the first journalist to identify the agent, initially used the spelling Steak Knife, but later learned this to be incorrect [1].
The link to an article in the stupid Times is now dead and I can't find it by searchng their site. The article "Scappaticci's past is secret no more" says something similar.
The recent edits to this article contradict the above. If anybody has sources one way or another, please add them. Ian Cheese 23:30, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Where is Scappaticci today?
[edit]Does anybody know where is Scappaticci today? Living in Northern Ireland? In Witness Protection somewhere? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.143.159.186 (talk) 17:20, 29 May 2008 (UTC) Italy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.46.243.54 (talk) 19:59, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Time to merge Stakeknife article with Freddie Scappaticci
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- To merge Stakeknife article into Freddie Scappaticci given the high probability that there are synonymous. Klbrain (talk) 09:35, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
The Boutcher report is out today, or at least a redacted version 'Mr Boutcher said the British government should now authorise the publication of his identity and the “full unredacted report”.' It is obvious that Freddie Scappaticci and Stakeknife are one and the same and time to merge... Maintaining both articles disperses the energies of editors needlessly. https://www.irishnews.com/news/northern-ireland/operation-kenova-stakeknife-cost-more-lives-than-he-saved-says-report-V4UR77WBJVCHXGGGLELGETZJJ4/ TGcoa (talk) 13:06, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
- Support merger. Scappaticci's death makes it easier to write a combined article. Kathleen's bike (talk) 14:42, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
- HM Government will never confirm or deny that Stakeknife and Scappaticci are one and the same, why would they? (think Burgess, McLean or Philby)
- Scappaticci himself, in 1993, talks about Stakeknife in the third person (Cook Tapes) pointing the finger elsewhere. His words don't mean that much coming from a cold blooded killer but it is a rebuttal by Scappaticci that he is agent Stakeknife.
- It is possible to speculate that Stakeknife was two seperate assets, who were operationally active at two seperate points during, "The Troubles" at least two asset numbers are attached to Stakeknife, Scappaticci was No.6126, while another No.5**** was also used for Stakeknife
- My inclination is to leave things as they are until the final Kenova report is published, by which time a few more actors will have died of old age, freeing up the author of the report to perhaps name and shame, not least to give the affected families some comfort. Jaymailsays (talk) 01:32, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
- Merge Scappaticci has no notability other than being identified as Stakeknife so no need to keep a separate article for him. The BBC, probably a more conservative source for these kind of claims, unequivocally identified Stakeknife as Scappaticci this week saying "The £40m investigation took seven years to examine the activities of Stakeknife, who was Belfast man Freddie Scappaticci." [1] Per WP:NOTCENSORED, I see no reasonable reason for us to stick to the British government’s line rather than following RS. Vladimir.copic (talk) 21:06, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
- Merge per Vladmir's rationale. This is a notability issue — even if we don't say the two individuals are one and the same, Scappaticci does not appear to have independent notability. Popcornfud (talk) 11:22, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
- Merge RS don't seem to doubt that the two are the same person so having two articles is redundant. Hemiauchenia (talk) 17:18, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- Merger complete. Klbrain (talk) 09:35, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
