Just a heads up I will be doing the GA review of this article starting now. I will be adding to the overview below as I go through the various areas. I try to be tough but fair and if I find issues I am sure we can work through them. MPJ-US  17:45, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review

  • Well Written - Green tickY
  • Prose Green tickY
Section: Background - "Slotted in the Nets" seems to be a Hockey phrase, could you reword that for non-Hockey fans? I don't actually know much about Hockey so my hope is that this is a "Good Article" not just a "Good Hockey article" if you know what I mean? Part criteria is that it's accessible to all readers.
  • Fixed to: John was moved to his desired position, while Frank replaced him. Green tickY
Section: Early Career - "Brimsek finished with the most wins and shutouts in the league with 20 and eight respectively"
Should be "8" so that all numbers are numeric.
  • Fixed Green tickY
Not sure if I understand - Did his team finish with that record? Or was it "The most wins and shutouts of any goal tender in the league"? I am not sure it this was an individual or a team accomplishment listed.
  • In hockey, when referring to wins or shutouts for goalies, it is an individual stat. I clarified this by adding your suggestion. Green tickY
  • Manual of Style Green tickY
According to the WP:LEAD guidelines the article size (31,000 bytes) means that it should have three or four paragraphs in the lead. I would like to see the lead expanded a bit to cover more aspects of the article.
addressed.
  • Will work on this.
All-Star team is only linked in the Lead, first mention of the team in the main body should have the same link.
  • Are you referring to the EAHL and IAHL All-Star Teams? They have no links on Wikipedia unfortunately. I did link the NHL All-Star Team though.
  • Well I guess I am showing my lack of Hockey knowledge on that one ;-) we're good on this one then.
  • Verifiable - Green tickY
  • Referenced Green tickY
Link tool reports no problems with the external links in the references cited, no dead links etc.
Is there a reference for the four other NHL Players to come from the same town? (section: Background)
  • Added a reference. The link comes from the official website of the city of Eveleth. Green tickY
I don't see a reference for the detailed breakdown under "Career Statistics", the reference seems to just be for the totals.
  • The reference for the total and individual season statistics was put near the career totals only. Other GA or FA hockey player articles also do this or mention "Statistics taken from x reference" in the reference section (ex. Ron Hextall, Doug Bentley, Georges Vezina, Charlie Gardiner). Putting a reference after each season makes the table look cluttered and it also seems redundant. It's like if you have four consecutive sentences that are taken from the same source, you'd put the reference after the fourth sentence rather than putting a reference after each sentence. Green tickY
  • Reliable Sources Green tickY
Is hockey-reference.com a reliable source?
  • Their statistics are taken from "Total Hockey", which is the "official encyclopedia of the NHL". In addition, the numbers do match up with NHL.com and other official websites. The founders look to be legitimate too: http://www.sports-reference.com/about.shtml
  • Based on what I read I believe this is reliable yes. Green tickY
  • No Original Research Green tickY
Only the "Career statistics" looks like it's not fully sourced, all other sections look okay to me source wise.
  • See above.
  • Copyright violations Green tickY
Earwig's Copyright detector reports that violations are unlikely, the highest similarity were for short, general phrases that would be in almost any hockey article so this is good to go.
  • Broad in Coverage - TBD
  • Main Aspects
There is very little in the article that's NOT Hockey related, nothing on his personal life or anything else except his death paragraph. ?
  • Unfortunately, there is not much on the personal life of players that played a long time ago, but I will see if I can find anything that I missed in my original round of research.
  • Focused Green tickY
It is definitely Hockey focused
  • Neutral - Green tickY
It is describing a hockey player with a very successful career but does not seem to fall to hyperbole. All claims of skills/accomplishments etc. are well sourced and presented appropriately
  • Stable - Green tickY
  • Images - Green tickY with the option of "fair use" pictures the one at the top is appropriate and should not have several "fair use" pictures so this checks out.
  • Copyright Green tickY - The fair use claim seems to be appropriate with the age of the subject matter etc.
  • Relevant Green tickY the subject of the article, definitely relevant
@Heroman26: - Okay first run through came up with a few questions, issues and some things that checked out okay. I will be reading through it again to ensure I've got it all covered. Let me know if you address any of this while I am reviewing and I can go back and double check your work. Overall this has a really good first impression, it's just a few things I found so far that hopefully are easily addressed.  MPJ-US  18:28, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, I went ahead and fixed most of the stuff that you recommended. The lead still needs to be improved upon and I'll see if I can find anything additional on Brimsek's personal life. I have to thank you for doing this though! This article has been on hold for a year or more now and hopefully, it can finally be promoted! Heroman26 (talk) 01:37, 11 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Always glad to help, having a GAN stuck there forever I know how it feels. On the good side this is very close to being good to go. I think the lead is the sticking point. As for non-hockey info, if you can find some great, but I know from experience that some of these older subjects are hard to find - newspapers covered the sports, occasional interviews may give a glimpse of their personal life but it's not like today where people put it all on display, the "other information" part will not be a deal breaker. Great work so far I have been checking off more sections and after my second read through I have not found any additional issues to bring up.  MPJ-US  01:49, 11 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I went and expanded the lead. Hopefully it's good to go now. I'm going to try some additional stuff on his personal life now. I'll let you know if I can find anything else. Heroman26 (talk) 01:48, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Lead looks good to me. Honestly this is GA level now even without more non-hockey content. I am looking into how to.list it as approved, i forget how.  MPJ-US  02:27, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Passed, updating article. MPJ-US  02:31, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
