[edit]Rayment gives his birth as c.1704, but this cannot be right as he was the second son of Sir Francis Winnington, who died in 1700 (Burke). I have therefore guessed this date. Can some one please verify? Peterkingiron (talk) 22:12, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
- The MP, subject of this article, is the grandson of Sir Francis Winnington. Sir Francis's son, Francis, was a solicitor, but not, apparently, an MP. He married Susanna Courtenay. This MP is the son of that Francis and Susanna. Choess (talk) 22:39, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
- I hope that does not mean I have been misled by Burke into other errors concerning the Winnington family. Peterkingiron (talk) 18:34, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
- Burke's is generally reliable; are you sure it isn't just a misleading pronoun? Having 3 Francis Winningtons in succession is bound to be a bit confusing. A web page I've found showing the correct arrangement claims to be sourced to Burke's of 1934. The following is the tree as best I can make out:
- I hope that does not mean I have been misled by Burke into other errors concerning the Winnington family. Peterkingiron (talk) 18:34, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
- Sir Francis Winnington
- Salwey Winnington
- Francis Winnington, of Broadway
- Francis Winnington (MP)
- Edward Winnington
- Sir Edward Winnington, 1st Baronet and descendants
- Edward Jeffreys
Yours, Choess (talk) 22:10, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
- My assessment of Burke is that it is usually OK, but I know of articles that were wrong, sometimes being amended in later editions. My copy is the 1939 edition. It says that Francis of Broadway had two sons, but only names Edward, hence my confusion. You have been follwing me around tidying up what I have done imperfectly: Do keep up the good work!
