Awards and Decorations

Father Sampson was nominated by General Eisenhower for the Congressional Medal Of Honor, It was downgraded to a DSC (Distinguished Service Cross) by the Secretary Of The Army (who by the way was a Protestant) because he didn't feel a chaplain should be awarded a MOH by virtue of their jobs description let alone a Catholic One. Father Sampson was also a prisoner of war twice... brief as it my have been, he was held captive twice by the Nazi's. It's all on record... check it out

I think this is a holdover from before I refactored the article. That is the prayer - cf. Grace (meals)#Typical Christian grace prayers - but if it would be better with it removed I can take it out. I'll ask around as to what I should do moving forward but I'm going to put the source review on hold until I have access to more of the sources. Sampson was briefly in Japan after the end of the war. Since this was after the war should it be put in the "Post-World War II" section? Also is there any info on his time in Japan or why he went? IntentionallyDense (talk) 23:42, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
From what I recall (given that the IA is down! arg!) not much is said in the book about what he did other than that he was deployed there, but it wasn't for very long. Based on your source "Chief of Army's chaplains paying visit to Alaska posts" Sampson has published two books and was also a fairly successful tennis player. I think being a published author should be added and possibly the tennis part (only if other sources mention it) IntentionallyDense (talk) 23:50, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've added the books to the Legacy section; they were mentioned in the See Also but you're right, they should be more visible. No QPQ needed. Passed GAN. Sources are reliable and article is long enough. Image is properly licensed. I think the first hook is too misleading, as when I first read it I thought it implied that Sampson's story played a big role in the film, but the article barely mentions that he suggested something to someone who's story did play a big role. I think that ALT 1 is better, but it should change the link to [[D-Day landings]] rather than the present [[Normandy landings|D-Day landings]] to keep it under the 200 character limit.
