[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: not moved. While this creek is currently the only topic named "Fourth of July Creek" on Wikipedia, there is a consensus that there are other potentially notable topics that preclude this creek from being the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Fourth of July Creek (Kenai Peninsula, Alaska) → Fourth of July Creek – At this writing, this is the only "Fourth of July Creek" covered on Wikipedia, and is likely to remain so in the years to follow. No disambiguations or draft pages point to the contrary otherwise; if no objections are raised, then please proceed without a redirect. (In belated commemoration of U.S. Independence Day.) - Oppose. There is a notable novel from 2014 named "Fourth of July Creek" (which meets WP:BOOKCRIT per reviews in NYT, WaPo, Kirkus, Guardian, etc.). And this Alaska creek doesn't appear to be more notable than the Washington creek. I don't think this page should be moved just because nobody has chosen to make an article for those topics. {{replyto|SilverLocust}} (talk) 10:21, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
- Comment Normally I would support such a move, as the status quo is indeed incorrect per WP:QUALIFIER policy; articles should not have parenthetical disambiguation in their titles if the base name is red, and we only disambiguate with other topics covered in Wikipedia. However, there are 23 hits on enwiki when doing an exact text search for "Fourth of July Creek", most of which do not refer to the creek on the Kenai peninsula, and at least some of which would qualify for inclusion on a dab page per MOS:DABMENTION. Also, Fourth of July Creek has a handful of incoming red links that refer to a creek in Idaho, rather than the one in Alaska (and, for that matter, it's not the only creek with this name in Alaska). So, I would instead support creating a disambiguation page at the base name. Mdewman6 (talk) 00:59, 14 July 2023 (UTC)
