"Smoke-free" name and products
[edit]QuackGuru, I think [the information you removed] is highly relevant, as it explains why the foundation is called "Foundation for a Smoke-free World", and what its primary marketing purpose is. It seems you created the section you argue this article should be merged to by moving a sentence in the PMI article to its own section; I've move it back for now. I hadn't seen that content; thank you for telling me about it. I think this articles' content is probably better in its own article, parallel to the "Advancement of Sound Science Center", but it you would strongly prefer a section in the PMI article, I'd be OK with a section titled "Foundation for a Smoke-Free World" and containing the content about the meaning of the name and purposes and independence of the organization. I'd be willing to extend this article, as an alternative. I'm not sure why you shortened it before PRODding it.HLHJ (talk) 01:21, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
- No source I found connects the IQOS product to the Foundation. Therefore it is off-topic for this article. QuackGuru (talk) 01:26, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
COI request
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. |
I believe that this request on the talk page should remain visible to the public; none of the issues I described below were addressed, including our updated bylaws to never seek out tobacco/nicotine funding. The article is also riddled with the use of our former name. Even if the page itself isn't updated -- and again, I am respecting Wikipedia's rules -- this talk forum should remain public so users can make an informed decision as they read about our work.
Hi there -- I'm an employee of Global Action to End Smoking, and I'm writing because the characterizations of us and our work are blatant malicious editing.
The main references to Tobacco Tactics come from the University of Bath, a group funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies. [1]
Bloomberg famously maintains a deep control over the prevailing tobacco tactics from the World Health Organization. Bloomberg also refuses to meet with scientists who disagree with them: [2] [3]
There is no mention of the fact that we are fully independent from our previous funder, Philip Morris International. There is also no mention of the fact that in October 2023, we adopted a formal policy never to seek or accept further funding from tobacco or non-medicinal nicotine companies. See our bylaws: [4]
Furthermore, there are several other articles that give a more balanced perspective on our work: [5] [6]
These articles also show the bias that the groups at the University of Bath show us.
We would like to see the page updated with this information. We believe at present, the information is incredibly biased. We also want to respect the Wikipedia commitment to independent, transparent information. Please let us know what other information we can show you to demonstrate our commitment to public health.
Thank you! 108.51.174.104 (talk) 18:58, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- Not done: This request has absolutely no standing at all, as the article has zero bias in it. Also, this request has almost no reliable sources. Quetstar (talk) 21:01, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
