Bore spacing
[edit]What does it matter if the 2.0 and 3.0L share bore and stroke dimensions? Many totally dissimilar engines happen to have the same bore and stroke. Both are easily changed without much difficulty, by boring out the cylinder more or less, or installing different crank and pistons. Auto engines of the same architecture are most easily determined by the bore spacing, which is impossible to change without basically redesigning the entire block. It is the single dimension shared by all small block Chevy V8s, and the main dimensional difference between an SBC and an LS V8, IIRC.
