Pre 1855 & pre RNLI silver medals

[edit]

Is there a source for these awards? Who awarded them?SovalValtos (talk) 04:47, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Institution (subsequently called the RNLI) started in 1825. This RNLI link helps explain. Tony Holkham (talk) 10:09, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Who specifically awarded the medals? Good question. More details here from the RNLI's site, no doubt from the RNLI's archives, which may have more info. The RNLI has awarded medals (I saw some when trawling BNA yesterday) to non-RNLI personnel for lifesaving services, so maybe that's what these were. Infobox visitation

[edit]

Can this be corrected to visiting, or is a holy one expected to call? Maybe visiting the station is intended? Perhaps best to remove this line from the infobox altogether? SovalValtos (talk) 20:06, 26 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It is an appropriate word (OED), if slightly archaic now, and not confined to holiness, but I have no objection to changing the relevant infobox to visiting, if that meets consensus. Tony Holkham (Talk) 21:05, 26 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I am content to accept your advice User:Tony Holkham. Let us see what other editors who make a visitation to this page think in the next few months. No big deal. SovalValtos (talk) 11:35, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
