The stand-out element of this track for me is the bass playing, and to some extent, the interplay between the bass and Billy Preston's clavinet. I cannot believe that such funkiness came from Bill Wyman, and given his official absence from several tracks on 'Exile on Mail Street', it is possible that he also stood down for this track. Mick Taylor plays occasional bass on 'Exile', but it is unremarkable playing, as one might expect from a musician for whom the bass is not his principal instrument. I have not seen it officially stated, but I believe the bassist is Willie Weeks, who had all the right credentials to supply this backing. The fact that the Stones rarely play 'Fingerprint File' live also lends credence to the theory that it needs a very good bassist to play it. --Thegn (talk) 08:28, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am pretty certain that Willy Weeks did not play bass on this track. I read an interview of Bill Wyman once, and he said that Mick Taylor played the bass on this song and that he (Wyman) played synthesizer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kierkegaardener (talk • contribs) 00:29, 6 September 2010 (UTC) However it's a great song, different and amazing, so therefore I wrote an article on Swedish WikipediaLill-Ann (talk) 17:55, 23 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
