Filip Horansky → Filip Horanský – There was no consensus regarding the use of diacritics, so this article should use the diacritics until a consensus is reached. See also: Talk:Mate Pavić.
PL Alvarez Talk, 08:03, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
- Strong Oppose - As per the ATP and ITF tennis organizations, and the Australian Open, the player's English sourced name is Filip Horansky. See also Talk:Marek Zidlicky and Talk:Galina Fokina. Fyunck(click) (talk) 08:20, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose. There is no diacritic in his ESPN profile. Kauffner (talk) 11:37, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose There is no discussion on diacritics on this talk page, so nominator's rationale is superfluous, so this move is missing a rationale. 65.94.77.11 (talk) 06:10, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose: The proposed page move is contrary to the established Wiki-policies of WP:UE, WP:COMMONNAME, and WP:RS. Dolovis (talk) 03:34, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

If we look at WP:UE the only Latin-alphabet bio example given is Søren Kierkegaard. (In addition the above discussion includes Галина Фокина as an example, which is a cyrillic name, wheras WP:OPENPARA distinguishes cyrillic names from Latin-alphabet). In ictu oculi (talk) 19:11, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
BLP lede
[edit]Added WP:Slovakia. And merged - Filip Horansky (Slovakian Filip Horanský) - into plain old Filip Horanský per guideline that first line is tighter than title. If the ' on the ý shocks anyone they can always revert it. In ictu oculi (talk) 12:05, 23 March 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Fyunck,
- How do you reconcile your edit underlined:
- Filip Horanský (born January 7, 1993) and known professionally as Filip Horansky, is a tennis player from Slovakia.
- with the ref given: Filip Horanský at www.talenty-info.sk "Filip Horanský je najlepším juniorským tenistom u nás."
- Isn't playing in Slovakia still playing professionally? In ictu oculi (talk) 19:09, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- What they do in Slovakia is their business. In English his professional name as sourced in 100's of sources (and also in the article) is correctly spelled. What is not reconciled in this wikipedia is continuing to go around making dozens of edits to first lines without including the alternate name. You are doing it on purpose and I'm inclined in the future to just revert the whole thing if you stay so selective. Fyunck(click) (talk) 19:18, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- Fyunck
- (1) like it or not per WP:RS what they do in Slovakia is relevant to a Slovakia BLP. If you are going to make the claim "and known professionally as Filip Horansky," then you need to provide evidence that when Mr. Horanský plays in his own country his accent is also dropped. Which seems to be impossible given www.talenty-info.sk
- (2) I take it "revert the whole thing" means "remove the ý from Horanský" - but please see Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. If you delete accurate and WP:RS sourced spelling of a Living Person you will be going against BLP MOS guidelines.
- (3) the onus is on you to explain what you mean by "alternate name" with reference to WP policies, without resorting to Cary Grant Pink (singer) and so on as before. In ictu oculi (talk) 19:55, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
