[edit]I've added an image. It's my own, so there shouldn't be any problems. escapologist File:Exquisite-kate.png 12:56, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
New Article
[edit]I plan to replace the entire content of this article. There is little here, and most is incorrect; in particular: A figure painting need not be done from a live model. Many have been done from photographs since the 19th century, and before that they were done from sketches that may or may not have been done from a model. Models were not used until the Renaissance.
The best medium is oils, not acrylics; the short drying time of the latter works against the mixing and blending of colors on the canvas that is required for the human figure.

Merge into
[edit]I am embarrassed to say that this was one of the articles that I worked on ~8 years ago, while using the name "FigureArtist". There is little here beyond an image gallery and some comments that could be moved to Nude (art).--WriterArtistDC (talk) 16:07, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
- The title should probably redirect to Figure drawing, but the content be merged (where helpful) to Nude (art). Or, since there is also Figure painting (hobby) (model figures), a disam page might be the proper outcome. Johnbod (talk) 18:03, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
- Not convinced. Not all figure painting is of nudes (not even the majority of it). Not all depictions of the nude in art is 2D painting, the majority maybe but figurative sculptures are a very substantial minority. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 17:44, 18 December 2021 (UTC) (moved from the other talk Johnbod (talk) 18:07, 18 December 2021 (UTC))

- No it hasn't!! You've changed the links (placed by you) pointing here, BUT NOT MOVED THE COMMENTS! Unbelievable. Johnbod (talk) 19:35, 19 December 2021 (UTC)

- The current article has been written to be mainly about nudes, but there is a perfectly good article that can be written about the emergence of painting figures in different cultures. Typically there is a period when figures are not painted. Johnbod (talk) 20:23, 19 December 2021 (UTC)
Beyond nudity
[edit]Moving forward, sections could be added with summaries of and links to the articles on genre where people are clothed.--WriterArtistDC (talk) 17:01, 23 December 2021 (UTC)
