- Both banyan and strangler fig, when lower case, refer to a type of tree with a particular life cycle, rather than any particular species. See the two articles for more details and Talk:Banyan for a relevant discussion. - BanyanTree 19:52, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
Epiphytes--not exactly parasites
[edit]This article had been included in a category for parasitic plants. But the article explains that this tree is a hemiepiphyte and a strangler. That doesn't exactly make it a parasite. One might argue that it is in a way, since it eventually kills its host from which it derives only its initial support. But the other stranglers are listed in the category Epiphytes, not parasitic plants. Based on that, I moved this article from the one category to the other.
