Truthfulness?

[edit]

Well, I took Oriental studies a while back and one of my teachers told me that he and a team comprised by many nationals was researching every single fact of the book, and with modern knowlege could attest the truthfulness of 85% or so of the narrative. Does anyone here know where to find academic studies as such online? I can't reach the teacher, thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonaspv (talkcontribs) 23:30, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Expansion

[edit]

For the voyage section, this will be an excellent source. [1]. Other sites that may be of use. [2], [3], [4], [5], [6]. There are probably others to, as far as the book go's I can't find a complete one online but there are excerpts at various places. Falphin 22:36, 30 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Nice work. Keep up. I'll try to improve his early life in Portugal, death and the publication of the book after his death. Gameiro 02:38, 31 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image

[edit]

Should we use one of these images?[7], [8], [9] Falphin 23:18, 30 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This images are of books that talk about the Pilgrimage or later publications. We must find an image of the original version. Gameiro 02:41, 31 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Why exactly do you need the original can the newere ones not be used under the same tag? I tried finding an original but nothing has turned up. Falphin 22:37, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • I found a picture of the original version and i've inserted it in "The Book" subsection. If you want, I've nothing against putting the front cover of the latest translation of the Peregrinação: "The Travels of Mendes Pinto". Gameiro 03:56, 3 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Rebecca Catz

[edit]

Large parts are quite exactly taken from her book. You could have the decency and cite her.--Tresckow (talk) 18:23, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"In Alentejo" versus "near Alentejo"

[edit]

In the section "Early life" it was written: "on the beach near Alentejo". Fernão Mendes Pinto is very specific about the location where they were abandoned: Melides. Melides is IN Alentejo. Accordingly, I changed the text to "on a beach in Alentejo". LBA —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.97.244.55 (talk) 20:26, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
