Talk:Fenner Brockway/Archive 1
Brockway appeared in the British publication Who's who until his death in 1988.
It appears that Brockway never edited Labour Elector, which seems to have folded in the 1890s ( http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/Jlabour.htm ). Brockway did edit the ILP paper, but it was called Labour Leader. There are contradictory hits on google, but the references to Brockway editing Elector appear to be in error. In Inside The Left (his autobiography) Brockway refers to the paper repeatedly as Labour Leader. RichardQ 21:36, 13 May 2005 (UTC)
Fenner lost his Eton and Slough seat because of his affirmation of the rights of his Black and Asian constituents. He could hardly have lost it because of his Left-Wing views, since there was a swing to the Left at that election. 220.247.240.241 13:23, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
- Slough had been multi-racial since long before 1964 and was well-used to waves of immigration. My recollection of 1964 was that my neighbours complained about his pacifism, when they had lost brothers and fathers in both world wars, while he sat safe in jail, as a 'conscientious objector' (aka conchie). - Very interesting. I've long wondered about his loss at this election, when their was a swing to the left. His views hadn't been a problem in previous elections apparently but something had changed by 1964. It's worth noting that Fenner was jailed three times during World War I but fully supported the war effort in World War II so it seems strange the constituents would be upset about his pacifism in the 1960s.
- In case anyone is wondering about bias, I am related to Fenner but only distantly. Robert Brockway (talk) 01:37, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
