I don't claim tobe a music buff, and I don't even come from the US, but I still can't figure out how Fats Domino managed to get the #127 song on the Hot "100"

Billboard publishes the Hot 100, as well as a weekly ranked list of songs "Bubbling Under" the Hot 100. Depending on the week, there may be anywhere from 10 to 36 "bubbling under" slots (starting with position #101), usually representing strong regional hits that are just not quite popular enough on a national level to crack the Hot 100.

For Fats, you can assume that a record's appearance on the "Bubbling Under" chart meant that the record was a hit in New Orleans, and probably several other southern markets as well (and maybe even the odd northern market, if it's ranked at, say, #101 to #105). However, a "bubbling under" apparance meant that it didn't cross over to become a national hit. 172.129.10.237 (talk) 18:40, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Death due to Hurricane Katrina

Do we know that he is actually dead? Although he hasn't been hearred from for several days, and his house is underwater he could be just missing, and safe some where. Until we have official word that he is dead, I think it is a bit premature to indicate that he dead. CS Miller 20:22, September 1, 2005 (UTC)

• I agree, until his body is ID'd, I say we leave the date off. Lets wait until facts actually exist before we write about them.

I can't find any online news source to back up the reference to bodies being recovered from his house. Unless a source can be cited, I recommend the statement be deleted for now, along with the "believed to have died" comment in the intro. If CNN or AP reports otherwise and we can add a link, then it should be put back. 23skidoo 21:51, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

I can find no source confirming bodies found either. Irresponisbile without one.

• Don't take this as confirmation yet, but the Rockabilly Hall of Fame Yahoo Group -- which includes members who would be in the know on such things -- is reporting that Fats Domino made it to the Superdome. References to relatives re:Katrina

The current wording is a bit confusing. Do we know for certain that Domino's wife and other relatives were rescued? I haven't seen anything confirming this (though hopefully this is the case). 23skidoo 16:56, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

Baton Rouge apartment?

According to this article, Domino has been living the past two days in the Baton Rouge apartment of Louisana State Univesity football quarterback JaMarcus Russell. But I don't know if that information should be added here without any backing sources. One thing that raises my concern is that the article states that Domino was "reunited with family members" after he was rescued, but CNN says here that Domino's daughter stated Thursday that she had not heard from her father since Sunday. The CNN article contains information dating back to before Domino was found, so the comment by his daughter is probably out-of-date. Being reunited with family could mean cousins and grandkids for all we know. Where's his wife? 23skidoo 15:06, 3 September 2005 (UTC)

Gold Records

Someone apparently didn't realize that multiple gold record awards are issued to various persons involved with a successful record and therefore linked to a 2004 auction lot of Fats records: Fats Domino's gold records were auctioned off in January, 2004: [1] According to the MSNBC report of the three gold records that were found, [2], one of the titles was "I'm Walking", which was also the title of one in the auction lot [3]. Contrary to the implied POV of this now-deleted link, Fats may actually have known how many gold records he possessed. Economy1 11:32, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

Discography

Would this rapidly expanding list - fine in its own right - not be better presented on a separate article 'Fats Domino discography' page ? Derek R Bullamore 21:07, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

I put it up within the Fats Domino article, simply because I thought it would be the most appropraite place for it. Should someone more proficient than I in creating new wiki pages care to make a separate "Fats Domino discography" page, that's fine by me! rudyardk

Also it would be nice for their to be a discography of his albums? one of his albums made it in the book "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" if I remember right... Revo (talk) 07:20, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

"Citation needed"?

Isn't someone going a little crazy with these 'Citation needed' stickers? I wasn't responsible for the entry, and if I had been I would have put 'Bluebeat/Ska', but to claim that a citation is needed to support the assertion that Fats' piano playing influenced the off-beat guitar rhythm of reggae seems a little crazy to me. A chunk of black vinyl is every bit as much evidence as a few words in a book. All one has to do is to listen to the records and it's totally, completely, and utterly obvious. No further citation should be necessary.

On the other hand, there should be a citation about Fats' popularity in the Caribbean. Deke42 16:38, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Removing of "citiation needed" sections

76.90.232.34 (talk · contribs) removed a good bit of text with the explanation "Five month old uncited claims removed." I'm not sure I agree with this, but since this was done, completed that task of removing portions such old tags were attached to. If removal of this material is not mandatory, I lean towards reverting to the version on 14 November here. Other thoughts? -- Infrogmation (talk) 00:33, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

It's kind of become my task (granted one I've taken myself) of removing uncited sources. If a statement is tagged it's either because it's questionable or because it's debated, biased, or another instance in need of clarifying. Someone felt it needed to be cited, and since it wasn't for five months I removed it. If someone is so passionate or persistent in having it in the article I think they should cite it. I've found many pages in the past with 10, 15, 20, and even 25+ uncited sources. the fat man.. rock? no.

I think the statement that "The Fat Man" was one of the first rock recordings is pushing it. That song comes from a New Orleans blues piano tradition.. Now the way Fats played it later on in his career "rockified" it and I don't have any argument with the assertion that he was there at the roots of rock and that can be felt in other songs. But "The Fat Man" has not much connection to Rock. Go back and listen to the original again.

As Dr. John has pointed out "Fat Man" is a cleaned up version of the old "Junkers Blues" also known as "Junko Partner", (played by Professor Longhair, Champion Jack Dupree and others).

"Biography" section needs biography

The article's lack of biographical information (personal information, family, details of youth, acquisition of musical skills and/or related talent) is remarkable. Fatback beat

Removed term 'fat' from phrase 'back beat' and replaced it w/ 'strong.' Fatback is pork. I'll bet Fats likes it, too. But I'll bet there's not fatback on his piano keys or his drummers' skins. Tapered (talk) 06:06, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

I know these pages shouldn't have too many images, but I added a screenshot from a public domain TV show with him singing "Blueberry Hill", probably around 1956. It's grainy, but I feel having an image of him from the 1950s would help the article a little bit. Suddenly There Is a Valley (talk) 03:38, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

touring in 1980's/1990's

Could someone confirm that fats stopped touring in 1980's? I was once due to go to a concert in germany around 1985 to see him play (cancelled due to ill health) and later in Glasgow in 1990's (twice, also cancelled due to ill health)(80.52.179.154 (talk) 08:39, 29 September 2010 (UTC))
