Filmography formatting
[edit]Per WP:FILMOGRAPHY:
Some filmographies are presented in a tabled format; however, you should make sure there is an obvious benefit to table format before creating a table for a filmography (e.g. a relatively short listing of credits for newer actors are better presented in list form, not table form).
The filmography section includes a one-row entry for Film and another for Voiceover. This does not seem to me to be a case where the use of a table format is an obvious benefit. I think simple bullet items are sufficient. Here is an example for how that could look:
- Film
- Punjab Nahi Jaungi (2017) as Fahad in a special appearance[1][2]
- Voiceover
- Medal of Honor:Warfight (2012) as an Urdu fighter (from Electronic Arts)[3]
What do other editors think?
Alternatively, all of the performance items (from film, television, and voiceover) can be combined into one table and the notes column (or perhaps another column) could be used to distinguish film from television from voiceover.
But if there is consensus to use tables for both film and voiceover even just as one-row tables, then per WP:ACCESSIBILITY and MOS:TABLECAPTION, data tables should always include a descriptive caption and edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason. I have seen no special reason offered for going contrary to this guidance.
I invite other editors to comment here.

- I see that the filmography tables have been converted to lists. For the record, I had and have no problem with using tables, especially for the Television section, which had a long enough list that a table seemed to me to provide some benefit.
- But now that they have been converted to lists, we should follow the guidance at MOS:FILMOGRAPHY, which says:
These are included for actors, directors, producers and other people who have a list of contributions in film. Ordered from oldest to newest. Vital information is title, year and, for actors, role; notes are optional. When the person has different types of film-related jobs (e.g. acting and directing), the filmography can be split into separate subsections for each.
- ''[[Title]]'' (year), role – notes
An example, using actor Keira Knightley's film roles:
- The Hole (2001), Frances "Frankie" Almond Smith
- Bend It Like Beckham (2002), Juliette "Jules" Paxton – Knightley's break-out performance
- Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), Elizabeth Swann
- Note, WP:Citing sources says:
it is usually sufficient to add the citation to the end of the clause, sentence, or paragraph
- For filmography lists, the citation typically goes at the end or, for filmography tables, in the Notes or Ref column. However, if a performance for a work has already been cited in the main text of the article, it is not necessary to cite it again in the filmography; but it is also not prohibited. — Archer1234 (talk) 05:40, 14 December 2022 (UTC)
