An already excellent article
[edit]I hope the previous authors of this excellent article will not object if I delete some of the "dot-com" references and replace them with links to "Euclid" and Flora of Australia (series) articles. Also the name warilu is mentioned in Dean Nicolle's webiste, but curiosly not in his book of the same name.[1][2] Gderrin (talk) 09:59, 10 July 2019 (UTC) Warilu gets a tick in Euclid. Etymology
[edit]I reverted the edit of Gderrin as something with a hyphen is not a word. And does Sharr indicate that gamus is a Greek word, or something that is Greek-derived? Please check the source carefully and in case of doubt, do not use the source.Wimpus (talk) 09:40, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
- Your changes need to be discussed by other editors before you start reverting, also please sign your additions to talk pages. You can do this by adding four tilde signs. Hughesdarren (talk) 09:24, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
- See your talk page. Wimpus (talk) 09:40, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
In my original edit, I inadvertently wrote "gamus" when it should have been "gamos" as in Ali Sharr's book. My apologies for the typographical error.Gderrin (talk) 09:58, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
- So, were fussing about something, that is merely a misreading? And are you actually sure about your other edits? Does Sharr really indicate that -phyllus, as you wrote before is a Greek word. Or does he indicate that it is merely a Greek-derived word-forming element? Wimpus (talk) 10:02, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
- Nice job on all your hard work on the Eucalyptus articles Gderrin and thanks for checking back to find the error that was made. Everyone can make a mistake, particularly editors who have made such an enormous number of valuable contributions as yourself. This is exactly how the discussion process is supposed to work. Well maybe with a little less snark. Hughesdarren (talk) 10:12, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
- I am only discussing Gderrin's etymological edits. And this is not a single mistake. Gderrin's has made over a hundred mistakes (misreading, misquoting, misinterpreting) in the etymological sections. In the last discussion (see here), Gderrin was clearly not telling the truth. Maybe he did not deliberately misled me or other editors, but in the end incorrect information is added to Wikipedia. In this particular instance, we still do not know whether -phyllus is intended by Sharr as Greek word, as written by Gderrin. Clearly this is a mistake by Gderrin or Sharr, as Greek words do not end on -us and the hyphen clearly indicates this is not a word. Wimpus (talk) 10:43, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
