Add sections on wildlife management and agricultural policy

[edit]

Under the Issues subsection. This subsection could use a lot of expansion and other additional topics in general. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cjohnsonhall (talkcontribs) 16:19, 24 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Merge United States environmental law into this article

[edit]

I agree with the merge. Splette :) How's my driving? 16:00, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Policy and law are usefully distinguished. Law is created by legislative bodies (Congress, for instance.) Policy is created by law, but also by administrative rule making--in this case, by the EPA, the Park Service, the Department of the Interior, by Executive Order, etc. etc. etc. (Note that sometimes presidents have been known to promulgate polices that break the law). Certainly the two topics are related and should be cross-referenced, but it is useful to keep them separate.Albert Terego (talk) 14:43, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good on you for being bold and clearing up an old merge request. However, there is no consensus for the merge. Enviro law being a subset of enviro policy (and law and policy etc) is a good reason for a separate article. A hierachy would go like this:
Policy ->Environmental policy -> Environmental policy in the United States -> Environmental law in the United States
As the article stood before being merged it was of sufficient length to be a separate article. Also both topics are are notable and therefore deserve their own articles. -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 02:56, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It might have been of sufficient length if it weren't so redundant with what was already here. Really, except for the one sentence about common law and standing, there was nothing there that wasn't already here. Why have two separate articles with almost entirely identical information? johnpseudo 11:24, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Revise/Add information to Leading Sections

[edit]

I'm adding how framing of the environmental issues - division between economic and national security - shaped policy development. I expanded on the policy instruments imposed by the government, such as design and performance standards, and market-based strategies, for example, tradable permits, which have helped deal with environmental impacts in terms of cost-effectiveness. I am also including how various presidencies have shaped environmental policy while offering citations for new and old claims. Envpol (talk) 07:59, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
