Disclosure I work for Energy Saving Trust (see previous discussion), and would like the Wikipedia article on the organisation is updated to stay relevant. I am a newcomer to Wikipedia, and have attempted to (be bold, and) make edits with complete transparency and reliable sources. I understand the reasoning behind the removal of the edits, but discussion on the talk page as to the particular aspects that were done incorrectly would be useful. I recognise there is risk of violating neutral point of view, and that no one owns the article, so request assistance from those more experienced to help. I welcome input, suggestions and challenges to any of my requests.
requested changes
[edit]1. The Energy Saving Trust (EST) used to be predominantly funded from government grants, with some not-for-profit commercial income. EST now bids for tenders with government, and operates as a social enterprise and charitable foundation.
Suggested edit: "Energy Saving Trust is a social enterprise and charitable foundation" References: i) http://www.charity-commission.gov.uk/Showcharity/RegisterOfCharities/CharityFramework.aspx?RegisteredCharityNumber=1144106&SubsidiaryNumber=0, ii) http://www.businessgreen.com/bg/news/2073133/energy-saving-trust-plans-charitable-status.
2. Add factual summary of services and funding mechanics. Possibly original research but tricky to reference without using EST website. Second is an explanation of how commercially funded charities work. Suggested edit: "It is funded by government tenders and the private sector to provide training, consultancy and certification across a number of industries from consumer goods to transport. Profits generated by commercial activity go to the charity, funding research into energy saving advice and behaviours for the public good."
3. Add board members. Open to suggestions as to whether it is important to include, but being a charitable foundation might add transparency. Two board members have their own pages, so linking is possible.
Suggested Edit: New heading "Board Members", content: "The Energy Saving Trust has a board of directors consisting of executive and non-executive members.
- Edward Brown
- Sir Hayden Philips
- Mike Fairey
- Tom Flood
- Judith Hackitt
- Elizabeth Morgan
- Ray MacFarlane"
4. Edit section 'Background' to cover previous status as a predominantly government grant funded organisation, and reason for change. Suggested edit: "Formed in 1992, Energy Saving Trust was a non-profit organisation jointly funded by the British Government and the private sector, changing to its current status in 2012 as the funding was withdrawn [1]."

rewrite needed
[edit]Hi, I work for EST.
This page needs some major revisions as EST has had some changes in the last few years rendering this page inaccurate. Some new references and citations might be useful too! Lets get it up to date, whilst keeping in Wikipedia's rules and guidelines. Comments and help welcome.
Suggestions: Change organisation type to social enterprise and charity. Think this term is well enough recognised to be used. It might be worth saying they used to be government funded, but now tender for work as a stand alone organisation as it changes their position with the government to a degree.
"carbon dioxide emissions - a key contributor to man-made climate change" always going to be a hot topic debate either way. Organisation might believe it is, but probably worth removing 'man-made', or changing to 'environmental impact through carbon dioxide emissions'.
"It was set up in 1993 and is structured as a company limited by guarantee." When it was established might be relevant. The fact it is limited by guarantee is less so.
Members section needs to be scrapped. EST no longer has members in the same sense it may once have had. It has certification/membership services such as Energy Saving Trust Recommended, and Motorvate; its commercial fleet scheme. Perhaps have the board members to give transparency? EST works closely with many organisations who commission reports etc. but membership implies less than impartial influence.
Activities section needs a rewrite. It doesn't need to list all the activity, but should at least mention commercial and charitable activities.

background
[edit]I just edited the 'background' section, which read as if it was written by the Energy Saving Trust's own publicity department. Indeed, the text has been pasted in from http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/corporate/Corporate-and-media-site/About-us —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.114.45.46 (talk) 02:19, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
