requesting elaboration on use
[edit]In general usage, does the forearm slide through 1 strap while gripping the second? Or does the forearm go through BOTH straps, leaving the hand free to grip a weapon? If both are done then are there terms to distinguish between the two uses or shields designed to favour one over the other?
In the case of through-one-gripping-other then this would protect the hand, whereas through-both might expose the hand while protecting further up the arm. A small shield for example, if gripping one of the straps, might not protect the elbow, whereas if it is slid further up then it should protect the elbow at the expense of exposing the hand. If the straps had to go further up I imagine this would usually require them to get a bit looser since the forearm usually grows in muscular bulk the more proximal one goes.
