- I don't think it really has anything to do with the technical details of the platforms. Afaict eglibc exists because of the hostile attitude towards more embedded platforms (in particular arm) exhibited by a person employed by redhat and in a position of power in glibc upstream (I won't mention names here) at the time. Eglibc was essentially the distros who did care about arm (fedora/redhat didn't really at the time afaict) banding together to insert an extra layer between themselves and a hostile upstream. Now that he has gone I believe the aim is to push things back upstream but I'm not positive on that. Plugwash (talk) 00:09, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
