[edit]

The name in the heading is wrong; his name is Edward Crew, without a final e. 'm not sure how to correct this Rcb1 (talk) 17:51, 30 March 2013 (UTC)rcb1[reply]

The cited sources use "Crewe". Do you have a source for the other spelling? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 18:05, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Andy, in the first instance I looked on Google, which seemed pretty unanimous that Crew is correct. In particular both zoominfo - http://www.zoominfo.com/people/Crew_Edward_50018756.aspx - and Linkedin - http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/dir/Edward/Crew - both say so Rcb1 (talk) 18:17, 30 March 2013 (UTC)rcb1[reply]
Zoominfo doesn't seem to be a reliable source; and it's not clear which of the four names shown by LinkedIn, if any, are the subject here. On the other hand, the UK Government document cited uses "Crewe". Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:42, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm. Are you really sure about this Andy? The Linkedin ref seems pretty clear to me - only one of the four is a "retired chief constable at West Midlands Police". Meanwhile Hansard, which SHOULD be a reliable source. says Crew here:http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200102/cmhansrd/vo020128/text/20128w23.htm, and so among others do the BBC: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/1671134.stm, and the gov.co.uk website: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/police-pay-and-conditions-review-launches. So does the Health Commissioning Group he now chairs:http://www.surreyheathccg.nhs.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=55&Itemid=195, and even the 2nd reference on his wikipedia page: http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-60347774.html. I don't have an axe to grind here, and I don't know him personally, but the evidence looks pretty overwhelming to me. At the least it seems unwise to me to have changed the text from Crew to Crewe.Rcb1 (talk) 00:40, 31 March 2013 (UTC)rcb1[reply]
I'm sure that what I said is corecet; I'm not sure of the correct spelling of his name, which is why I asked for sources for the "crew" spelling, rather than asserting that it is wrong. I'm not seeing the same LinkedIn info you are; please can you provide a more specific URL? I didn't change the text form Crew to Crewe, I reverted an uncited change. Given the number of misspellings of my surname in supposedly reliable, and official, sources, I know this is not an easy matter to resolve. Andy, is this Linkedin page better? http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/edward-ted-crew/51/b73/713 It's obviously not a very important issue in the global scheme of things, and I'll check in Who's Who (where the subject writes and edits his or her own entry) when I get the opportunity. I know what you mean abut misspelling: I've had at least 10 different versions of my name; and I once had a colleague who had kept a list of incorrect versions of his name - Weighell - and had got to more than 80!
