Nixon
[edit]An edit by Mtstroud inserted reference to “conservative politicians such as Richard Nixon”. Now Richard Nixon was many things, but it would take a real stretch to label him “conservative”. As President, he asserted that William F. Buckley's group was more dangerous than the Joh Birch Society; his administration advanced “affirmative action” adjustove discrimation; he took the United States off what remained of its tattered gold standard, and effected wage-and-price controls; and so forth. Certainly there were many on the political left who denounced Nixon, but that doesn't make him a conservative. —SlamDiego←T 17:23, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
- Probably arguable as a POV issue (I know some liberals consider him a conservative), but there is no reason to argue over it here. The two remaining examples in the article (Goldwater and Reagan) are widely considered conservative, and two examples are enough to illustrate the point without bringing in a third, more contentious example. --RL0919 (talk) 21:54, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
- It's a PoV issue, but not merely a PoV issue, as labelling him conservative is incoherent at best. —SlamDiego←T 00:51, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
