Chess pieces picture
[edit]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Chess_set_4o06.jpg
I sort of doubt that the black pieces are made of ebony. In any case it's really hard to tell since they're lacquered black, no? The dark checkerboard squares might be ebony, tho.
From the description of said picture.
photo taken by me of one of my chess sets on 4 Oct 2006. The squares on the board are each 5cm square. I think that the black pieces are ebony and the white pieces are box wood. The black pieces are heavier than the white pieces.
Now that's what I call science.
- Those don't look like ebony but it is hard to work from a picture. I can confirm that black chess pieces are sometimes made of ebony even if it is not likely in this case.
Kamagong (Ebony) Chair
[edit]The image with the label "Kamagong (Ebony) Chair" is a file with the name File:Kamagong (Ironwood) Chair.jpg. So is it ironwood or ebony? The description says "Ebony - Ironwood". I'm not wood expert, but I thought they were different species not overlapping.--SPhilbrickT 15:24, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
The Elder Scrolls?
[edit]Maybe we should include an "In Popular Culture" section. Ebony, in the Elder Scrolls series of video games, is a volcanic glass... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.218.200.253 (talk) 16:44, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
Color?
[edit]What's special about this wood that makes it black? 99.4.184.9 (talk) 15:06, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
That sounds like an interesting question to me. Also, just some general information about the advantage the trees get from their unusual nature would be interesting.--Davefoc (talk) 16:17, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

Correction
[edit]As I recall the great American company Gibson was found innocent and the wood was returned to them useless after years of improper storage 2600:1009:B147:F7B1:20A1:92E8:1431:6F22 (talk) 21:38, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
