Union Pacific began turbocharging EMD GP9 and GP9B locomotives in late 1955. The SD24 was the first EMD locomotive that had an EMD turbocharger in an EMD locomotive. See Don Strack's Utah Rails homepage for more info. ----SSW9389 13:08, 25 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Inaccuracy?

[edit]

This uncited claim strikes me as unlikely...

"The SD24 had 400 hp (298 kW) per axle, limited by the traction motors then available."

The turbocharged GP counterpart with the same traction motors, the GP20, had 500 horsepower per axle. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:6000:A645:2100:5018:86A5:5436:EC88 (talk) 21:40, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
