Clarification
[edit]Regarding the following assertion: "The list was presented to court in a campaign to have the songs censored..." I don't remember the PMRC ever taking their case to court, but they did manage to organize a Senate hearing. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 21:25, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
Restored Writing Credits
[edit]Seems to be in the Google cached version, not sure why not in the current version. I re-added. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.199.110.140 (talk) 19:54, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
Harmonic Analysis
[edit]the harmonic analysis of the song on the current page is pretty screwed up. they're almost right, but off by a whole a step (compared to the album version - it's one and a half steps sharp of the live music video). So Bb–C–Gm7–Bb–A should really be AbM7-Bb-fm7-G7, and the chorus should be Ab-Bb-fm7-bm. I would assume that the reason for this discrepancy is that the sheet music in the reference section was altered so that the song would be easier for a pianist to play (one flat in the key signature of F versus three in Eb).
Also, the chords presently listed are definitely not in A minor or - transposing down appropriately - G minor. the key signature is very definitely Eb, and I would say that C minor is the best fit for thesong as a whole. the chorus is a fairly simple progression in this key, and the G7 at the end of the verse definitely indicates C minor. Although the G7 does not resolve to a C minor, but to an Ab, which is really the main chord area in the song. So Ab Lydian might be best (accounting for both the key signature and the emphasis on the Ab major chord). In any case, though, A minor is not at all correct.
I'm not sure about the vocal range described (Bb3-F#5), but if this information refers to the same piece of sheet music, it is probably proportionately incorrect. Hope this helps. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.108.107.201 (talk) 23:46, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
- Wiipedia goes for verifiability from reliable source, not original research such as what you stated. — Legolas (talk2me) 06:13, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
- Right, well i'm not sure the sheet music cited is a reliable source. those kinds of commercially produced sheet music are very regularly abridged and often diverge significantly from recorded versions (in my experience, anyways). i certainly understand why you wouldn't want to include my analysis of the structure, but i don't think you should include the analysis included on the page as it is patently incorrect, and i would venture that some of the information listed represents an opinion of the original editor anyways. i can't access the sheet music, but i would be very surprised if the key of a minor was referenced anywhere on the page since, as i mentioned, Bb is not a native tone to the key of a minor (and look at this page - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_minor if you'd rather not take my word on that). and if the sheet music does indeed identify these chords as a sequence in A minor, that's only evidence against the reliability of the source.. I think the fact that the recorded version of the song is not in the same key as the sheet music is evidence enough that it is not a reliable source. I mean, exactly why should Alfred Publishing be considered infallible? Does it own the publishing rights to the song, or does the company pay the owner for the rights to distribute the sheet music? It's good information to include on the page, obviously, but I don't really think it should be included unless a different, really reliable source is consulted. Do what you like, it just kind of pains me to see this kind of bad music theory being propagated.
- Alfred Publishing owns the sheet music right's for Madonna's songs, if you have any qualms, please write to them, not here. — Legolas (talk2me) 17:22, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

and they identify those chords as being in a minor? or was that the work of the orignal editor? have you looked at the sheet music? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.108.107.201 (talk) 18:27, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
ah - i just realised that i can actually see the first page of the alfred publishing sheet music on google images ( http://www.musicnotes.com/images/productimages/mtd/MN0085010.gif ) and the key signature is indeed Eb, and the first chord is AbM7 just as i indicated earlier. the only tempo marking on the page also seems to be "medium tempo" and not 100bpm as the article currently states. I suppose the publishing company actually did get it right. You should have a look at that music and see how well it matches up with the information on the page. If i had to guess, i'd say that the information on the page was in fact lifted from this website - http://www.911tabs.com/link/?4575966 . but i guess that's neither here nor there. i hope this is sufficient evidence that the page is in need of editing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.108.107.201 (talk) 19:52, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
sorry for the multiple edits, but just got access to the musicnotes site, and the vocal range it indicates is C4-Eb5 rather than Bb3-F#5, that the original key is Eb major and that the tempo is 116 (all under the tab labeled "arrangement details"). As far as i can tell the information credited to this site in the main article bears no resemblance at all to the information on the site. 66.108.107.201 (talk) 20:05, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
Switching infobox image
[edit]I switched the prior infobox image with the current one. She is American, and the U.S. must have gotten the single first (unless I'm wrong). --George Ho (talk) 00:07, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
