To whoever
[edit]I did what I could here, but she seems pretty notable. Please expand. I'd especially like to see a useable picture, which drug she overdosed on, etc. I'd REALLY like to see an obit, but I don't have access to historical New York Times. V. Joe 03:20, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
- I've added the WPBio template, which will link this article to the Biographies project, which may help attract some people who can help. Can't hurt, at any rate. :) -- Xtifr 01:33, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
Wow
[edit]About a month ago, this article was a poorly worded paragraph. Thanks so much to whoever expanded it, with information I certainly couldn't find on google.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.85.178.227 (talk) 15:31, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
Daughter?
[edit]Suddenly, on internet, there is reference to a daughter called Dream Cazzaniga, which made it into the article (I've removed until better reference can be found.) What is the source for this? It seems to have been plucked from an anonymous posting on a fansite devoted to Luna.Mowens35 16:23, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
Death date
[edit]Please quit putting the wrong death date in; her death date has been verified by her obit in the New York Times as 17 May 1979, not 1 January 1979 as some fansites have claimed.Mowens35 16:25, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

- B-class? Really? The example used to illustrate C-class is substantially better than this one. I've just downgraded it. Ravenswing 02:32, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
Plagiarism
[edit]Much of the content of this article, including headings and text, have been plagiarized from a fansite: http://donyaleluna.tripod.com/—Preceding unsigned comment added by Brain Rodeo (talk) • contribs) 02:29, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
A blog by a former boyfriend of Donyale Luna
[edit]FYI, this page: http://donyaleluna.wordpress.com/ was apparently written by a former boyfriend of Donyale Luna, and it includes some interesting background that could be added to this article, such as her claim to be Polynesian. I tried to link to it in the article's External Links section, but it was automatically reverted because apparently links to blogs aren't allowed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by StartApart (talk • contribs) 19:54, 3 December 2010 (UTC)
- Right, blogs are not allowed, and there's some reason to that. Otherwise we'd have tons of questionable material inserted into biographical articles, "supported" by sources. Regarding this article, I'd say we should be aware of that, although the blog possibly is an interesting and probably a singular source in this specific case. Catgut (talk) 01:34, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
Just to update, the source seems to be verified by Arogundade's referencing it in his works and books.TykeLass (talk) 19:39, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
Black British History
[edit]Hello, I really do think the visibility of the page should be more pronounced, so I will be adding to it as there are numerous articles which have become available since 2010. I would just like to voice my concern that this seems to part of a wider part of erasure, particularly the wording of the main article. For instance the blog mentioned by another user I have read also, does actually bother to seem to interview people and notes that the use of that phrase 'kind of a kook' has been taken completely out of its original context. Given how big a first she has in black history, it disheartens me to think that wikipedia has allowed, for what seems to be 10 years going by the talk section, that the place millions of people are directed to, describe her in flat negative stereotypes. She has a very big legacy and yet is barely talked about favourably or at all just based on the quote across a lot of the media, professional or otherwise because of the fact that the phrase 'kind of a kook' which has been taken to describe her entire personality, and yet seemingly describes a small section of it was kept in her Wikipedia page. From 2020, there are no movies, no modern documentaries, scant videos on youtube, and one autobiography only available online and several thousand blog posts about how she is a 'kook'. It has contributed I believe to othering her, presenting an exotic caricature. I can only hope people are more willing to be more inclusive in the future and that her article is included in more initiatives to talk, explore and celebrate black culture, rather than contributing to a world of erasure in the broader cultural sphere, particularly as it pertains to the role it plays in Black British history as a major shift in portrayals of active black women in a positive light. Also as a side note is there a debate as to whether we should be using American or British English? TykeLass (talk) 05:02, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
White Washing
[edit]Can we please stop erasing the term 'white washing', racially / ethnically ambiguous altogether. Feel free to alter, but do not erase it. External images here shows the cover / illustrations which was asked for by the magazine at the time, see Powell 2009 Cutting a Figure, otherwise. https://www.flickr.com/photos/57684776@N05/5390441931/in/photostream/ http://devorahmacdonald.blogspot.com/2012/04/fashion-architecture-chic-proportions.html
Far too much…
[edit]… of this article is postmodern piffle, ‘analysis’ of the flakiest kind, produced long after the events. It reads like a postgrad seminar paper, of the most slanted and opinionated variety, and is unsatisfactory as both biography and encyclopaedic material. --2001:44B8:3102:BB00:91A5:C3A5:948A:6DD5 (talk) 02:44, 5 September 2021 (UTC)
why so few pics of her??
[edit]for a wiki article about the first black supermodel, why are there photos on here of literally everything and everyone EXCEPT her. like, there is even a photo of a white Mary Quaint model, but not of Donyale. 2601:49:4102:1B10:75CF:FF8A:C151:7E01 (talk) 02:06, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
- There are barely pictures of her on here. Show the Vogue cover. Show pictures of her. She's being whitewashed out. Do better! 2601:1C2:100:3530:5448:5E80:12A3:E026 (talk) 04:34, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
This is my own opinion and in no way reflects the opinion of anyone else, but I believe that will be due to Copyright Laws and their current owners. Often images of Donyale, unlike for example Josephine Baker, are not in the public domain yet, if that helps. TykeLass (talk) 21:08, 18 February 2022 (UTC)

(Non-)appearance in "Tonite Let's All Make Love in London"
[edit]There is a much-repeated claim that she appeared in the 1967 documentary Tonite Let's All Make Love in London. However, she is not mentioned in the credits, I haven't spotted her in it, and I have found no reliable source for this claim. I have deleted the film from her filmography.
