[edit]Is he an actor or director? 66.142.195.205 (talk) 15:30, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Needs some improvement
[edit]The article provides more detail than is appropriate for an encyclopedia entry. The tone could be tightened up, too. It would help to have some outside refs, to help decide what belongs in the article, and to establish notability. Thanks. HG | Talk 05:55, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
Couldn't agree more with HG. However, no matter how much I try to keep the page concise and accurate, people continue to add unnecessary (and often erroneous) text. At this point, much of what has been added to my original paragraph was simply copied by someone from my website, The Don Carpenter Page. Given that anyone can add anything at anytime, it's difficult for me to understand how wikipedia is taken seriously as a source of information. Anyway, I simply don't have the time to devote to constantly monitoring the page. Readers be warned. Grrroucho (talk) 10:16, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Hi: First, my humble thanks to Grrroucho for putting up this page honoring my father.
To the first question above, he was neither an actor nor a director, but a writer. He wrote screenplays and novels, and some short stories.
He had a lot of critical acclaim in the time of his most noted works, but not a lot after that. Being his daughter, I can't really establish notoriety so much as validate or update chronology.
We moved to San Francisco when I was 6, so that would have been 1965; not 1961.
Thanks again, and I hope this page continues to have an existence in whatever form.
