[edit]websters-online-dictionary
Upper Dehradun, Rishikesh, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Delhi, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahar
Central of Middle Doab Mathura, Aligarh, Etah, Agra, Mainpuri, Etawah, Farrukhabad, Kanpur,
Lower Doab Fatehpur, Kaushambi and Allahabad. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sumitkachroo (talk • contribs) 07:32, 13 April 2011
- That's not Webster's. It is just the old Wikipedia page that I created. Many on-line dictionaries have taken to adding Wikipedia pages (heck, it's free). Take note that the Doab is a historical term, no longer in active use in either English, Hindi, or Urdu. What districts are a part of it now, is really original research of sorts. - I'm not saying that your characterization of "Upper," "Middle," and "Lower" is wrong, but just that you can't use Wikipedia (really an older version of the page) to cite your edit. That's why I have reverted the edit. A proper way to do it would be to find an older reference, pre-1947, which explicitly describes these terms, and then say something along the lines of, "In 18**/19**, the Upper Doab stood for the districts of ..., Middle Doab for the districts of ...," etc. Regards, Fowler&fowler«Talk» 11:48, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
- Here's a link from the 1881 edition of the Imperial Gazetteer of India, volume 3. It describes the three terms. Please use it to make your edit. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 11:58, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
