Dmitry Medvedev (partisan) → Dmitry Nikolaevich Medvedev – WP:NATURAL. HadesTTW (he/him • talk) 06:00, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
- Our naming conventions and policies still require the proposed name to be in widespread use. Is the patronymic commonly used in reliable English sources? WP:MAIDEN states that "only for very few Russians is the patronymic customary in English, notwithstanding widespread use of patronymics in the native language." - Unfortunately I can barely find English language sources on him without finding a bunch of articles on the former Russian president. The article currently contains no English references. However, I found the following sources (not all of them RS so I'm not sure if they count) that include his middle name:

- uses Medvedev, D. N. (Dmitrii Nikolaevich) (1898-1954)

- uses Medvedev, Dmitry Nikolaevich

- commemorative stamp that includes his middle initial
- It seems at the very least, Russian sources and images of documents about him list him as Д. Н. Медведев, indicating that his middle name is included. This is true for at least the book Сильные духом which is cited in the article.

- Oppose per WP:MIDDLENAME and WP:MAIDEN unless it can be proved that the patronymic is in common use. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:07, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
- I decided to check the Russian Wikipedia article, Медведев, Дмитрий Николаевич which is much more extensive. Virtually every source there includes his patronymic, usually in the form "Д. Н. Медве́дев." I acknowledge that this isn't necessarily the case in English, but then again all English sources I could find contain his patronymic. - Oppose per above. 162 etc. (talk) 17:07, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
