Closure
[edit]The article doesn't say why it was closed. According to this its closure was rumored to have been due to a bacteria. Does anyone have any verifiable info as to why the island closed? Coinmanj (talk) 01:42, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
Glad it's not just me! I came here from that Distractify link looking for the real reasons behind the closure. I don't have any further info, but would love to see the article address it, now that the urban legend in the Distractify link is doing the rounds. 92.236.160.211 (talk) 16:13, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
According to Yesterland[1], it was an economic reason. Mpking (talk) 17:13, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
It wasn't because of "economic" that is what they want you to think. Some say it was bacteria. I think it was something else something more scary something that will haunt people who will go there. In spring go to Bay Lake, Florida and check it out for yourself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PrincessShelb (talk • contribs) 02:32, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
- Since it closed in 2002, 21 years after the person died, I'm going to go with Economic. You don't wait 21 years to close a public health hazard. Spring of 2002 was a rough time at Disney, Park attendence took a faceplant (down 5% http://www.themeparkinsider.com/news/response.cfm?ID=882. 14million people, versus 18 million today) due to the september 11th attacks, and the crumbling economy. Shane Perez information
[edit]Why is the information about Shane Perez relevant? Many people have explored many abandoned sites, what makes this particular one relevant enough for an encyclopedic entry? It seems like this is just promoting this individual, especially with the "find out more" piece. Pastabeans (talk) 17:11, 28 September 2015 (UTC)
Pirate Caverns' existence
[edit]Does anybody know if Pirate Caverns really existed in the park's Treasure Island era? Some sources (as an example, [1]) claims that the attraction really existed, but I need further confirmation. Smookiekins2 (talk) 12:36, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
