من او را در افغانستان و زندان پروان دیدم

[edit]

— Preceding unsigned comment added by [redacted] 16:01, 10 December 2011 (UTC)

I saw him in Parwan, Afghanistan prison

[edit]
Translation of the Persian text above courtesy of Google translate

Dear family

Robert Lyvynsvn I saw three years ago in Afghanistan's Parwan prison. He said he was detained by security forces in the UAE is Arabic, and after several days of interrogation, he had moved to Saudi Arabia as possible after it was brought to Afghanistan was America. He said he has been accused of spying for Iran. This film is not new and may have been because he was in Saudi Arabia with his torture and interrogation at the time he was filmed by video camera.

Please give this information to the authorities instead of Wikipedia -- FormerIP ( talk) 03:11, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe authorites turn a deaf ear to any or all credible information. Lets not be a bunch of anal asses intent on sticking 100% to wikipedia policy and procedure. What is more important? Getting the word out, about Mr. Levinson? Or maintaining Wikipedia editorial policy? MArc S. Dania Fl 206.192.35.125 (talk) 15:18, 13 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If Robert Levinson is still alive, and in the custody of the Iranian government, he would undoubtedly be being held at the Evin House of Detention, located at 35.796°N 51.384°E in northwestern Tehran, in Iran, most likely in the secretive "Section 209" annex of the facility, which is run by the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence. The Iranians have inferred that they have him, however, not officially admitted it. It came out that Robert Levinson was CIA, and the reason why he has not been released or exchanged, even though his cover has been compromised, tells me that the U.S. does not really want Mr.Levinson back that badly, which could mean #1 he is DECEASED (keep in mind, he had diabetes and hypertension) or #2 Mr. Levinson was in fact collaborated with Iran, and has secretly partitioned the Iranian government for asylum, to avoid prosecution or retribution. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:3005:2B02:FA00:F00B:E26B:546B:1D7 (talk) 17:12, 17 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I contacted the Cia on this,But nothing ever materialized... I am 100% sure it was him.... Andrew Barber Travellinandi (talk) 07:41, 27 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Biography, AP, & PressTV Reports

[edit]

Typically, people with pages have associated biographies on Wikipedia and Mr. Levison does not.

PressTV was not launched until 3 July 2007 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PressTV this article references an 3 April PressTV article where Mr. Levison was on private business. Casual reader would infer that Mr. Levison was not collecting information for any government agency. However, the Associated Press reported 12 December 2013 that Mr. Levison was collecting information for the CIA http://www.politico.com/story/2013/12/robert-levinson-cia-missing-iran-101107.html. 74.124.71.140 (talk) 07:49, 16 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Languages/Religion/Finances

[edit]

In the puzzle of this case it would be interesting to know if he has the religion that you could assume from his name. It could play a role?

More important even is the languages which he may speak. That gives a clue to what contacts he might have had.

Most important would be to look at his bank accounts which surely the authorities would have done? His travel would not have happened without an advance for expenses. Who paid into his accounts like 6 months prior to his departure? Who booked his travel and did his own accounts pay for it? 2001:8003:AC60:1400:2C4E:295B:9578:F44A (talk) 10:52, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have since read that the family was awarded 2 million for not sueing the government/CIA. Can't find it right now but it was a reliable source. This would indicate that the government had kind of finished with the case and did not expect his return. 2001:8003:AC60:1400:31C2:2914:FFD6:C99C (talk) 05:01, 17 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request

[edit]

I am Suzanne Halpin, sister-in-law of Robert Levinson, America's longest held hostage. Bob is married to my sister Christine. I propose the following additional information to be added to the page Disappearance of Robert Levinson.

The following text would be added to the Iranian involvement section.

In January 2016, the U.S. and Iran agreed to a prisoner exchange that left Levinson behind in Iran. As noted at that time by President Obama, "Iran has agreed to deepen our coordination as we work to locate Robert Levinson."[1] According to former hostage Jason Rezaian's 2019 book "Prisoner," sources inside the Supreme Leader's office stated, "The issue of Bob Levinson had initially been a point of contention throughout the negotiations (between Iran and the United States). Initially, Levinson - or a complete accounting of what happened to him - was to be part of the deal, but the Rouhani administration decided there was no political value at that time in acknowledging, after eight years, that, yes, Iran had been responsible for his disappearance."[This quote needs a citation] The New York Times reported in 2016 that, in 2011, in a meeting with members of an American non-profit organization, the Iranian Ambassador to France confirmed that Levinson was in the Iranian government's custody.[2] In November 2016, the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention issued an opinion that found Iran responsible for Levinson's disappearance.[3] The opinion states in part, "The Working Group therefore considers it to be an established fact that Mr. Levinson was arrested without any legal ground, in violation of his rights as established in article 9 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and article 9 of the Covenant, and has been detained since then."[3]: 3

The following text would be added to the U.S. government investigation section.

The Trump administration continues to advocate for Levinson's release, as stated by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, "We are engaged...literally every day, in working to return every U.S. citizen who is either wrongfully detained or a hostage somewhere around the world. That certainly includes Bob Levinson and all those that are being held by the Iranian regime. We are determined to get them back."[4]

The following would be added to the Recent status section.

In December 2018, six families of dual and foreign nationals imprisoned by Iran, including Levinson, published an open letter through the Center for Human Rights in Iran. Addressed to world leaders, rights organizations and media outlets, the letter asked for help in the return of the imprisoned.[5] On March 8, 2019, Levinson's wife Christine testified with other hostage families before Congress for the release of Americans held in Iran, as shown on C-Span.[6] Christine Levinson told the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee, "Time and time again, Bob has been left behind, deprioritized, or seemingly forgotten."[This quote needs a citation][time needed] Members of Congress put forth the Robert Levinson Hostage Recovery and Hostage-Taking Accountability Act to "empower the U.S. president to impose sanctions on American hostage-takers."[This quote needs a citation][2][dead link][additional citation(s) needed]

Levinson is Jewish, yes?

[edit]

Levinson is Jewish, yes? Levinson is clearly a Jewish name. What was a Jew doing on a spy mission in Iran??? Doesn't make sense. Something smells here.Or was he simply against Iran because Iran wants the land taken from the Muslim Palestinians to be returned to them? What is the untold story here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.13.89.135 (talk) 05:45, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Levinson is not "clearly a Jewish name". Wikipedia has 24 articles about people named Levinson; only three of these are identified as Jewish. You cannot draw conclusions about a person's ethnicity from their surname. And your implied assumption that all Jews are prejudiced against Iran and Muslims is offensive. Lol Levin is Hebrew (as in the tribe of Levi), I'd say it's a safe bet. 2600:1009:A021:74F7:9F81:ECE6:83D5:6F01 (talk) 08:31, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
