"Flowering Desert" vs "Desert Bloom"
[edit]I plan to move this page (currently titled "Flowering desert") to Desert Bloom, a term that is much more used in English. Right now, I moved "Desert Bloom" (the 1986 film starring Jon Voight) to Desert Bloom (film). I'm going to wait for the bots to clean up the links before moving this page over to that redirect. --Rfilmyer (talk) 13:58, 16 October 2017 (UTC)
Chilean Perspective
[edit]Right now, the article focuses on desert blooms in the Atacama desert, but they are not exclusive to this particular region, or even to South America. They happen in the US,[1] in South Africa,[2] and Australia[3]. --Rfilmyer (talk) 14:17, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

Merger proposal
[edit]@A loose necktie, Anomalous+0, Teamdulwich, and Reaper Eternal: I propose we merge Superbloom into Desert bloom. The term "superbloom" is American slang for something that already had a good name: "desert bloom." It would be more informative for our readers, giving them much more context, if a search for Superbloom redirects to Desert bloom. Currently this article has a "California" section that simply redirects to Superbloom. Desert blooms occur all over the world where there are deserts, including AZ[1] as well as CA in the US. - My concern is that while deserts certainly do bloom all over the place, and while the term "superbloom" is an American neologism, a superbloom is more than a simple bloom in the desert— it is an exceptionally large bloom, and is distinct from other desert blooms. Readers typing in "superbloom" are going to be expecting an article that explains , up front and at the top, what makes a superbloom special, not an article on blooms in the desert that discusses superblooms in passing or in a subparagraph. But I would like to hear others' thoughts. A loose necktie (talk) 05:01, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
