Christ, I was sure that the "Dennis/Peggy storyline axed" edit had to be a joke. But I googled, and no... Jim Moreau 17:30, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There's no Wikipedia rule against spoilers, Trampikey. That's an edited version of a contribution made by another user in good faith; I'm reverting it. Feel free to add a "plot details follow" heading. Jim Moreau 15:31, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

What's your point?

Marital status

[edit]

Am I the only one who thinks there's something not quite right about "Marital status: Deceased"? 15:29, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

It's a tricky one, but "till death.." is part of the traditional vows...Britmax 11:47, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Date of death

[edit]

Changed the date of death to 31 December 2005, he was killed as the clock struck midnight on New Year's Eve so it should either be this or 1st January 2006. Only reason I can think of for it being the 30 December was that was when it was broadcast? hawkfist

Yeah you're right, though I don't remember the day it was broadcast. We should probably say he died on 1 January 2006 as it was when the clock struck midnight and he wouldn't have died for at least a few seconds ;) Is everyone in agreement? — AnemoneProjectors (talk) 11:06, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It was put as 30 December because that's when the episode was broadcast. I think we should leave it as 31 December, because it is debatable, and putting it as 1 January 2006 could cause some confusion having his "Duration" saying "2003-2005". Also, another issue is; when was his last appearance? was it 30 December (when it was broadcast) or 31 December, which was the date of the action taking place? Trampikey (talk to me)(contribs) 15:33, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Duration and last appearance are for real dates in the real world, so 30 December is correct. His death date should be the date he died in the fictional EastEnders universe. — AnemoneProjectors (talk) 16:20, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:DennisDead.jpg

[edit]

Image:DennisDead.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Updating article

[edit]

Hmmmm.... I actually hadn't realised how bad this article actually was. I may try my hand at fixing it while I have all the Watts stuff in my head.

Can I also put the call out for any sources and references. :)Familiae Watts (talk) 09:43, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rather than the problems involved with tweaking existing articles, I've created a draft copy of this article here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Familiae_Watts/workspace/Dennis
where I will gradually make the improvements and alterations to the article, transferring the final product over at the conclusions. Suggestions, comments about improving the article are welcome at the draft talk page. :)Familiae Watts (talk) 14:48, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The storyline section will probably have to be condensed.... if anyone wants to have a go I'd appreciate it. :)Familiae Watts (talk) 14:23, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Done it! Though reading it made me ask a few questions. Firstly, there's only a very brief mention of their wedding, nothing to say they even got engaged. Didn't Vicki discover Den after researching the family tree? (Not sure how she managed that, have you ever done that kind of research? I doubt she'd have found him in reality!) Oh, and why did Johnny threaten to kill Dennis if they didn't leave by midnight? Also, what was Dennis's relationship with Dot? AnemoneProjectors (talk) 20:43, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
lol! Don't you hate that (or love it!) - when you read something about a past character and it sparks your interest again! If memory serves, their engagement was very short - in fact, it was written in as Dennis and Sharon wanting to marry asap. I don't remember that much about Vicki being the one to discover Den exactly (she was always the weakest of the Watts by far, imo). I always thought that Dennis learnt it and let it slip to Vicki who then went on the hunt for Den??? Johnny threatened Dennis because Dennis beat him to a pulp! Dennis beat him to a pulp because Johnny threatened Sharon for interferring with Ruby. Dennis learnt this because Phil told him (ergo, Phil killed Dennis! Or at least is partially responsible, which Sharon is yet to learn of). And Dot and Dennis were friends because Dot was the first one to befriend him when he first arrived on the square. Phew. And thanks for condensing the storyline section. I am moving onto the Character development section next (drafts can be seen in the link above, which I will just gradually transfer here). And finally then a reception section. Oddly, I found it ALOT more difficult to get sources for Dennis than for Chrissie by far - and I had to wade through a lot more fan stuff and appreciations for Mr Harman's physicality.Familiae Watt§ (talk) 20:56, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I am remembering Vicki doing something with a family tree.... I'd look on the BBC website if it had the damn archives up.Familiae Watt§ (talk) 20:58, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
When I'm looking for sources on older characters, I tend to stick to Google News archives as it cuts out all the bloggy stuff. But there are few news sites that keep their news articles live forever (BBC, Digital Spy, Guardian to name 3). most of them are only accessible through another website by subscribing. Maybe a few things need to be added to the storylines here then. I think a section in development on Dot's friendship would be nice, but probably impossible. There's only one mention of him on Dot's page - that he was the only person she told about her cancer. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 21:53, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think I can probably work his friendship with Dot into the "Personality" subsection - that section is basically going to describe how he was a tough guy with a soft side (etc., etc.), and his friendship with Dot can be given as an example of this - it is actually a good example. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Familiae Watts (talkcontribs) 21:57, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ah yeah, good idea! But can it be sourced? AnemoneProjectors (talk) 22:12, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Mmmm, yes, I was thinking about that.... I will try. So far I've been looking more at the early sources I have (for the creation section)... there may be some stuff in the later material I've got, you know, "looking back" as he exited.Familiae Watt§ (talk) 22:19, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I hope so. By the way, I missed EastEnders to work on this article! And nobody's updated any storylines. Bah! I set myself a task to update all the important storylines every episode. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 22:30, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well it was for the best of causes - the Watts articles are just so critical!!! If it had been any other set I would have chastised you! ;) Alas, I am at my parents for Xmas, and (co-incidently enough) mum has not watched EE since Sharon left and refuses to have it on the TV until she returns - she didn't take to all the newcomers in 06. I'm getting a friend to tape them for when I return. So I'm afraid I can't help you. Familiae Watt§ (talk) 22:39, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't looking for help... just letting you know that you ruined EastEnders for me lol. Hmm your mum is mad. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 22:56, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I had almost given up hope when I finally found a very fitting reference from the Guardian: "Dennis's arrival in the Square was EastEnders at its most glamorous: he stalked along the tube lines in pitch darkness, lit a cigarette which briefly illuminated his face, a fox screeched - and he disappeared into the cockney murk. Those of us looking for clues to his character (OK, just me) were intrigued to note he drank neat vodka, had done time, and established an instant empathy with Dot Cotton." http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2003/may/02/broadcasting.tvandradio —Preceding unsigned comment added by Familiae Watts (talkcontribs) 01:57, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Dammit! I keep forgetting to sign these things. Familiae Watt§ (talk) 02:13, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ooh that's a good quote. You should be so used to signing your posts on here that you end up doing on other sites too! AnemoneProjectors (talk) 11:37, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Last Appearance

[edit]

Why has his last appearance been changed from 30th December 2005 to 1st January 2006? I know that he died as the clock struck midnight on NYE 2005 but his last appearance aired on 30th December 2005, there wasn't even an episode of EastEnders on 1st January 2006. If we're going to play around with dates like this then I'm sure there are lots of others that could be changed but generally first/last appearance refers to the broadcasted episode. At least it always has done to my knowledge. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.0.106.99 (talk) 19:51, 10 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

His grandparents ?

[edit]

All that is known about Dennis Rickman's grandfather is that he was a friend of Den Watts, but were or his wife (Dennis's grandmother) ever actually named in the program? Or was it ever mentioned whether they were still alive by the time Dennis appeared in EastEnders? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.254.72.53 (talk) 21:49, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
