Live spectacle

Any information about a live spectacle related to Kimetsu no Yaiba? This Vietnamese page seems to be reporting it (note: I can’t read Vietnamese): http://gamek.vn/nhac-kich-kimetsu-no-yaiba-cong-bo-dan-dien-vien-trai-xinh-gai-dep-20191030010708453.chn — Preceding unsigned comment added by Palpalpalpal (talkcontribs) 12:11, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Literal translation in lead

[edit]

I think an inclusion of a literal Japanese translation of the title in the lead is warranted, considering that "Demon Slayer" is not the literal Japanese meaning of 鬼滅の刃. I found this post on the blog of the English publisher that suggests a translation of "Blade of Demon Destruction", would this be appropriate? Seems a bit clunky to me, but I'm not quite sure of the standard for lead translations. — Goszei (talk) 00:29, 5 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Plot summary that needs trimming

[edit]

User:ElPorcio30 helpfully wrote a plot summary, but it is far too lengthy and detailed to be placed in the article for now. As he pointed out, the summary should be closer in length to those at Naruto, Full Metal Alchemist, and Attack on Titan, for example. Could someone trim this before placing it back on the page? WP:PLOTSUM provides some helpful guidance. — Goszei (talk) 22:15, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Synopsis

Setting

The story takes place in Taishō-era Japan. It follows protagonist Tanjiro Kamado and his sister Nezuko Kamado as they seek for a cure to Nezuko's demon curse. Tanjiro and become entangled in the affairs of a secret society, known as the Demon Slayer Corps, that have been waging a secret war against demons for centuries. The demons are former humans who sold their humanity in exchange for power, they feed on humans and possess super natural abilities such as super strength, magic and regeneration. Demons can only be killed if they're decapitated with weapons crafted from an alloy known as Sun Steel, injected with the poison of a flower called Wisteria, or exposed to sunlight. The Demon Slayers, on the other hand, are entirely human, however, they employ special breathing techniques, known as breaths, which grant them superhuman strength and increased resistance.

Plot

Tanjiro Kamado is a kind-hearted and intelligent boy who lives with his family in the mountains. He has become his family's sole source of income after the passing of his father, making trips to the nearby village to sell charcoal. Everything changes when he comes home one day to discover that his family has been attacked and slaughtered by a demon. Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko are the sole survivors of the incident, with Nezuko being transformed into a demon, but still surprisingly showing signs of human emotion and thought. After an encounter with Giyū Tomioka, a demon slayer, Tanjiro is recruited by Giyū to also become a demon slayer and begins his quest to help his sister turn human again and avenge the deaths of the rest of his family. After completing his training and passing his induction ceremony into the Demon Slayer corps, Tanjiro is tasked with eliminating several demons around Japan. During a routine mission, he is sent to Tokyo, where he encounters Kibutsuji Muzan, the leader of all the demons. Muzan has been hiding from the corps for centuries by posing as a human merchant, but Tanjiro is able to recognize him due to his sharp scent of smell. After a brief altercation caused by Muzan turning a civilian into a demon, Tanjiro is rescued by a demon doctor, Tamayo, and her servant Yushiro. Tamayo explains that she has been trying to create a cure for the demon condition to beat Muzan, but she will need vast amount of quantities within his blood (which his lieutenants carry) to be able to study the cure. She additionally informs Tanjiro that Muzan's goal is to find a flower that, when consumed, will give him immunity to sunlight (which is lethal for demons). Muzan sends 2 powerful demons to kill Tamayo and Tanjiro, but after a fierce battle, Tanjiro and the group manage to beat them. Tanjiro is sent on more missions, where he takes Nezuko along in a wooden box that he carries as a backpack to protect her from the sun. He eventually meets Zenitsu Agatzuma, a cowardly demon slayer who fights with the breath of lighting style and who is foster child of the lightning pillar, and Inosuke Hashibira, a hard headed, feral demon slayer who dual wields 2 swords. The 3 become a group and go together on missions. The group receives an urgent message stating that all available demon slayers must head to a nearby mountain, where one of Muzan's lieutenants, spider-like Rui has been spotted. The mountain battle turns into a massacre where a majority of the demon slayers are murdered by Rui and his minions. Despite winning a fierce battle against one of Rui's henchmen, Zenitsu is poisoned and slowly starts to become a spider demon, however, he is suddenly given an antidote by Shinobu Kochu, the Insect Pillar, who arrived along with Giyu Tomioka, the water pillar, to control the situation. In another part of the mountain, Giyu effortlessly saves Inosuke from the brink of death at the hands of a tarantula demon. Meanwhile, Tanjiro and Nezuko face Rui himself, but Tanjiro's sword breaks during the fight and he is about to be killed. Seconds before Rui can deal the final blow, Tanjiro has an epiphany where he realizes that his father used to perform a fire dance that was oddly similar to the breathing techniques used by the demon slayer. Tanjiro attempts to mimic the fire dance and his broken sword suddenly brings forth a flaming blade. Nezuko also awakens to a new power where her blood becomes highly flammable and explosive, but which only affects demons. Tanjiro and Nezuko seemingly defeat Rui, but he reveals he's still alive and attempts to deal the final blow to Tanjiro, however, Giyu arrives and effortlessly cuts down Rui. Immediately after, Shinobu and her apprentice, Kanao Tsuyuri, attempt to kill Nezuko, since she's a demon herself. Giyu manages to hold them off until a messenger arrives and tells them that the demon slayer's leader has ordered for Tanjiro and Nezuko to be brought to his presence unharmed to be judged. Tanjiro and Nezuko are brought as prisoners to the demon slayers' headquarters to meet the leader of the corps, Kagaya Ubuyashiki, a severely deformed and ill man. He gives his blessing to Tanjiro and Nezuko due to the latter's restrain from feeding from humans and after a heated discussion with all of the pillars, it is agreed that she will not be harmed by the demon slayers. Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke recover from their injuries and train to improve their breathing techniques. They are sent on a mission with Kyojuro Rengoku, the Flame Pillar. The group boards a train that will take them to their destination. Along the way, Tanjiro asks Rengoku if he has ever heard about the breath of the fire god, but he says he hasn't. The train is attacked by one of Muzan's lower liutenants, who is eventually defeated by the group, but not without derailing the train. In the wreckage, an injured Rengoku is attacked by Akaza, Muzan's 3rd highest lieutenant. Despite a fierce battle, Rengoku is impaled and dies shortly after, with Akaza escaping before sunlight vaporizers him. Before dying however, he instructs Tanjiro to go to his family's house to give the news to his father and his little brother, and tells Tanjiro that his father may know more about the breath of the fire god. Tanjiro goes to the Rengoku state, but Rengoku's father proves to be a violent, depressed drunkard who is uncooperative. Rengoku's brother though is much kinder to Tanjiro and promises to investigate more about the breath of the fire God, of which family records have been redacted. After coming back to the HQ, Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu and Inosuke are sent on a mission with Tengen Uzui, the Sound pillar, to a red light district, where girls from brothels have been disappearing and a demon is suspected to be involved. The demons behind the disappearances proves to be twin siblings Gyutaru and Daki, both of them being the 6th upper moons of Muzan's lieutenants order. A fight breaks out throughout the town between the demon slayers and the demons and Nezuko awakens to a new power: a deadlier demon Form, however, during this Form she barely has control of herself and almost feasts on humans, which would mean Tanjiro, Giyu and Urokodaki would need to commit seppuku to repent, and Nezuko would have to be slayed. Nezuko is stopped by Tanjiro and the group eventually defeats the two demons, but Tenzen loses an arm during the fight and decides to retire from the corps. Tanjiro's blade is chipped during the battle and after it he's sent to the hidden village of the blacksmiths to repair it. Here he meets Mitsuri Kanronji, the love pillar, Genya Shinazugawa, brother of the wind pillar, Sanemi and also one of the 5 demon slayers inducted along Tanjiro, and Muichiro Tokito, the Mist pillar and descendant of one the demon slayer's corp strongest slayers. While Tanjiro is in the village, he befriends a blacksmith who shows him a mysterious automated training dummy in the woods with several arms. The blacksmith explains that the mannequin is supposedly meant to represent the best slayer in the entire corps' history, a ronin from the Sengokku period and a distant relative of Muichiro. Tanjiro figures out the strategy of the seemingly invincible mannequin and defeats him, which reveals an old sword inside of it, with the same black blade as Tanjiro's. The sword is taken for restoration, with the Rengoku family crest (a keepsake from the dying Rengoku to Tanjiro) to be used as a hilt. While the blade is still being crafted, Muzan sends 2 of his lieutenants, Gyoko and Hantengu, to destroy the village. Muichiro manages to beat Gyoko, while Genya, Tanjiro, Nezuko and Mitsuri fight Hantengu, whos power allows him to divide in multiple bodies. Here it's revealed that Genya cannot use breathing techniques, but due to his rare blood type he can consume a demon's biomatter and partially transform into a demon for some time, at the cost of some of his sanity. During the fight, a mark very similar to Tanjiro's forehead scar suddenly manifests around Mitsuri's chest and she becomes exponentially more powerful. Tanjiro and Nezuko corner Hantengu's real body and manage to kill him, however, they ignore that they're in a completely open field with no cover, exactly at the break of dawn. Sunlight engulfs Nezuko in front of everyone, but rather than vaporizing, she is completely unharmed, becoming the first demon able to walk in the sun. The group returns to the HQ with the news and Tamaya allies herself with the demon hunters to look for a cure to the demon curse. Tamaya's hypothesis is that now that Nezuko has "conquered the sun", Muzan will launch an all out assault on the demon's slayers HQ to get her blood and thus obtain her power. Ubuyashiki concurs with her and he proceeds to explain the origin of the demon slayers corps and their rivalry with Muzan. Rengoku's brother investigation also sheds new light on the breath of the fire God: centuries before the story took place, a wealthy family of samurai, the Tsukini clan, during the Sengokku period had 2 sons. One of the sons, Yoriichi Tsugikuni, was born with a large birthmark on his forehead, was considered an omen of a terrible fate and also an omen of misfortune for the family. Seeing this, his family decided to give him away to a monastery when he turned 10. Yoriichi's brother, Kokushibo, was considered the prodigal son of the family. However, Yorichii began to demonstrate an inhuman prowess in martial arts and sword skills, as well as practically anything. Yorichii eventually became a swordsman and found the demon slayer corps, who didn't use breathing techniques at this time. He befriended Rengoku's ancestor and he developed the Breath of the Sun, of which all of the other breaths came from. Rengoku's ancestor went on to modify the breath of the sun and he created the breath of flame, which was passed down throughout generations of his family. Eventually, Yorichii ran into Muzan and effortlessly cut him down with the breath of the sun, however, he was unaware that Muzan could only die if all of the cells of his body were destroyed and Muzan managed to escape before this could happen. Yorichii went on to be a demon hunter for several decades, until he died of old age in the middle of a fight with his brother Kokushibo, who became the highest of Muzan's lieutenants out of jealousy towards his brother's superior power. During this period, Ubuyashiki's ancestor also swore an oath that his family would not know peace until Muzan was killed, which is why all of the male members of the Ubuyashiki family become severely ill and die in their early 30s. Ubuyashiki also reveals that the mark that manifested on Mitsuri's body is a latent skill that all breath users have, and it's related to the power of the breath of the sun (Tanjiro had unknowingly developed this mark after fighting a large demon in his demon slayer entry exam), therefore, he announces that all of the demon slayers are to train until developing their mark before Muzan attacks them. Through arduous training, all of the pillars, Tanjiro, Kanao, Inosuke and Zenitsu manifest their marks. Shortly after, Muzan decides to launch his attack, and teleports directly into the fortress once he finds its location, but Ubuyashiki reveals that he was expecting him and that it's a trap. Suddenly, an explosion destroys the entire HQ, which signals all of the hunters to rally and attack Muzan. While Muzan is distracted, Tamaya injects him with the cure to the demon curse and restrains him, but Muzan begins to violently mutate and manages to teleport himself, along with all the hunters in the vicinity, to his fortress dimension. Muzan enters a cocoon and starts absorbing Tamaya, while all of the hunters are sent to different parts of Muzan's fortress (which architecture and gravitational rules are controlled by one of his lieutenants). Most of the hunters are scattered completely alone throughout the fortress, but Yuishiro's remote view magic along with the command skills of the newly appointed Kagaya Ibuyashiki (son of the previous Ibuyashiki who died in the explosion) manage to produce a rally signal for the hunters. Tanjiro and Giyu face Akaza, while elsewhere Shinobu, Kanao and Inosuke face Doma, the 2nd hihhest of Muzan's lieutenant and a cult leader who was responsible for the death of Shinobu's sister and Inozuke's mother. In another section, Zenitsu faces Kanako, a newly promoted lieutenant and his former classmate. Kanako became a demon after mastering the lighting breath style to obtain more power, which prompted Zenitsu's sense to commit seppuku out of guilt. The fight seems to be heavily one sided in favor of Kanako, who was a much superior student to Zenitsu, but Zenitsu reveals that he had developed a new lighting breath technique with the help of Tanjiro and manages to decapite Kanako before losing consciousness.

In Doma's hall, Shinobu is overwhelmed by Doma as she's unable to injure him due to her poison style not being strong enough. Doma injures Shinobu and proceeds to eat her, killing her on the spot. Doma proceeds to fight against Inosuke and Kanao and is about to kill them until he suddenly starts melting. It is revealed that Shinobu, knowing she'd probslly be unable to defeat Doma on her own, had progressively injected herself with Wisteria poison (a poison deadly to demons) throughout a long period of time, so most of her blood had wisteria poison in it the amount in it being almost three hundred fold the amount needed to kill a normal demon. Doma is stunned which allows Inosuke and Kanao to deal the killing blow.

Meanwhile, in Azaka's hall, Tanjiro and Giyu fiercely battle against him, with Kanjiro awakening a new power inherited from his father. They injure Azaka until they make him realize that his life as a demon is empty and worthless, Azaka embraces death and allows himself to be killed. Tanjiro and Giyu collapse from their injuries, with Giyu having lost an arm. Obanai Iguro, The snake pillar and Mitsugi Band together to kill the demon controlling the fortress, who is keeping the hunters separated. And at another section, Muichiro, Sanemi and Gyomei Himejima (the stone pillar, supposed to be the strongest) along with Genya face the demonified Kokushibo. A fierce battle erupts culminating with Kokushibo's death at the hands of the hunters, but not before he manages to bisect Muichiro and Genya, killing them both. The groups recover and rally to Muzan's cocoon room, but Muzan emerges from his cocoon, stronger than ever after absorbing Tamayo and seemingly kills Tanjiro by slashing him in the head with a poisoned razor-like tendril. Giyu Hanejima and Sanemi barely hold Muzan at bay while Mitsugi and Obanai, with the help of Yuichiro, kill the demon controlling the fortress. Upon its death, everyone in the fortress is expelled into the real world, in the middle of a city, where a monstruous Muzan proceeds to wreak havoc. Meanwhile, Tanjiro, who was not killed by Muzan's poison but rather placed in a coma-like state, has another epiphany regarding the origin of his family. It is revealed that Tanjiro is not actually related to the Tsukinis, but Yoriichi saved Tanjiro's ancestor from a demon attack and became good friends with the family. During this period, Muzan was aware of the breath of the sun and was systematically killing its users and their families. Knowing that he needed to protect the style but unwilling to put innocents at risk, Yoriichi taught the breath of the sun not as a combat art but as a fire dance to Tanjiro's ancestor, who dubbed the breath of the sun as "the dance of the fire god", while also asking Rengoku's ancestor to redact all of the records on sun breath users to protect them, while giving Tanjiro's ancestor his Hanafuda card earrings, as a symbol of the pledge to pass down the style to his descendants. Tanjiro awakens just in the time as the battle against Muzan rages on. Nezuko, who had been given the demon curse antidote prior to the battle, feels Tanjiro is in danger and runs towards him, eventually reaching the town. Mitsugi, Obanai and Hanejima are severely injured, but Tanjiro awakens the full potential of his mark and his sword becomes crimson, he calls down the combined style Breath of the Sun God, a refined version of the breath of the sun, and cuts down Muzan, stalling him long enough for him to be exposed to sunlight and die. In the aftermath of the battle, the dying Mitsugi and Obanai hold hands and profess their love to each other, vowing to be lovers in their new life, after which they both die. Hanejima rejects medical assistence so that the more junior slayers can be attended first and also dies shortly, leaving only Giyu and Sanemi as pillars. However, prior to his definitive death, Muzan manages to turn Tanjiro into a demon via his poison, and states that he will migrate his consciousness to Tanjiro. The demon Tanjiro is also immune to sunlight and is by far the strongest demon, Inosuke, zenitsu and the remaining hunters attempt to stop him but he proves to be too much for them. Nezuko pleads with Tanjiro, who begins to react, and Kanao injects him with the final dose of the demon curse antidote. An internal struggle ensues where Muzan tries to convince Tanjiro to take his place as demon king because the humans will never forgive him for having turned into a demon. Tanjiro however, hears Nezuko's and his families pleas and tells Muzan that it's up his friends to forgive him. Tanjiro rejects his demonhood and Muzan finally dies!

Some time later, Tanjiro is recovering along with the now human Nezuko and the remaining hunters. The demon slayer corps are disbanded since their goal has been completed. Tanjiro, who lost an eye and the use of his right arm (therefore his swordsman ability) meditates with Kanao, and tells her that he believes that all of those who fought against Muzan will reincarnate in a happier life.

The epilogue is set in the present day, Tanjiro's descendant (who looks identical to him, implying it's a reincarnation) meets with Rengoku's descendant to go to school together. On the way they run into many of their friends, who are all identical to the events that happened a hundred years ago or news about what happened to them. Ibuyashiki went on to become the oldest living man in Japan, beating his family's curse. Yuichiro, still alive, became a reclusive and mysterious artists who creates paintings of the same woman (Tayama) and who doesn't let anyone close to him. Inosuke's descendant becomes a famous biologist, who reveals that she has discovered a special plant (the one Muzan was looking for to tame the sun) which only blooms for a few hours during sunlight, meaning that Muzan would have never been able to obtain it. Zenitsu's descendant (who's appearance implies Zenitsu married Nezuko) says hi to Tanjiro's, before the action cuts to the final frame, showing a memorial altar wall in the house of Tanjiro's family, containing his sword, his hanafuda card earrings, and a smiling group picture with all of the characters who survived the events.

Author

Just a curiosity, how come there is no wiki page for KnY's author? Is it a pen name of an unknown guy or something?--DenkoSekka (talk) 23:01, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

- Probably because there are barely any info about the author. She rarely or never has any interview that I know of. --User:Aerkdude (talk) 12:01, 17 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You could do some digging through each book and see what comes up. But yes, there's probably not enough info that keeps Wikipedia from deleting the article. Mrman19 (talk) 16:00, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Make two pages

[edit]

This article refers to both the anime and the manga. I think both are successful enough to have two separate articles. The film has an article on its own. "Demon Slayer" will default to a disambiguation page where readers can click what they want. Many right now are looking for the movie, but there will be a portion looking for the anime as well. Thoughts? Can I just make this move or do I need consensus? Marty2Hotty (talk) 01:20, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Splitting the TV series from the source article is a very uncommon practice and is only done if there is enough information on production and reception to warrant it. In its current state, the article lacks enough to warrant a split. A good example of this is Rurouni Kenshin (TV series). If you can achieve that level of coverage, then a split is warranted, else it is not. Demon Slayer also already exists as an article on a move in a board game, though that will probably change soon. Link20XX (talk) 01:44, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Link20XX. The anime content needs more coverage, mainly on the production, before creating its own article. - Xexerss (talk) 04:32, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Marty2Hotty: I personally think that adding a production section about the anime would be enough to create another article. - Xexerss (talk) 06:51, 17 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Xexerss: In that case, where should the main Demon Slayer link to? The manga? Both are popular and the movie is even popular. Also, why did you revert the hat note of the film. I remember searching for the film and had to look through the manga article in search of the film. I think a hatnote for the film would be good? I guess I can do some research and write a "production" section and make an article that has the list of episodes. I guess the main article for Demon Slayer would be the manga, a separate one for anime (after a production section) and another for the film. In that situation, Demon Slayer should link to a DAB page. Marty2Hotty (talk) 14:53, 17 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree with Xexerss removing the hatnote. The information in it has its own part of the infobox, so one is unnecessary. Splitting the TV series is also unnecessary, look at articles like Naruto and My Hero Academia, where they have been made into good or featured articles without splitting the TV series. I'm not sure why you are so insistent on splitting them, to be frank. Link20XX (talk) 14:56, 17 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think there are more people looking for the anime. I think 2000 daily views compared to the 900 for the manga. There is a season 1 article created linking from the "list of demon slayer episodes" article. Having an anime article created can make it much easier for readers to click directly to it from the DAB page. With the film being the most successful film in Japanese history and so much information added to the season 1/list articles, I think an anime article is warranted. I made a request on the list talk page here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:List_of_Demon_Slayer:_Kimetsu_no_Yaiba_episodes Marty2Hotty (talk) 00:16, 24 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know how to ensure that an image is allowed to be used on Wikipedia (copyright-wise), so I'd just like to suggest that the official logo be added so it can be displayed in the navbox (Template:Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba). Examples of this include Template:My Hero Academia, Template:Pokémon video games series, and Template: Fire Emblem. TheHumanIntersect (talk) 18:37, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

File:Kimetsu no Yaiba logo.svg is available in commons already. It should be okay to add. Link20XX (talk) 18:48, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thank you. I hadn't found that. Added it to the template. TheHumanIntersect (talk) 19:22, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Reception

[edit]

Hello.

I cleaned up the Reception of the manga, because it had too many unnecessary repetitive informations about the accolades of the manga and other things. Now it has the best order (manga, sales, critical reception and accolades) and the same goes to the anime reception. Without any repetitive informations. External Learning Resources

[edit]

Please correct me if I'm writing here when I shouldn't be. I've been working on an article in my blog https://ikkengoya.com/posts/kimetsu-no-yaiba-demon-slayer-s5e8-japanese-shadowing/ . It's meant to provide a Japanese shadowing tool for people that like anime and want to learn Japanese. I was wondering if I could link it in Wikipedia's Kimetsu no Yaiba article. Maybe add a section at the bottom called "External Japanese learning resources". I could look for other Japanese resources aside from my own, that also use Kimetsu no yaiba as a base, and link them as well. Ikkengoya (talk) 21:42, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No, that would be WP:SELFPUB. Xexerss (talk) 21:48, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Really? That's so sad. It's not technically a sources of information though. It's more of a tool people can use that is related to Kimetsu no yaiba. I guess this is not the place for that huh? Ikkengoya (talk) 21:54, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
