The result of the move request was: Not moved. Consensus is to leave the Malaysia party as primary. I will move Democratic Action Party (Malaysia) to the base name. — Amakuru (talk) 07:41, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
Democratic Action Party (disambiguation) → Democratic Action Party – "Democratic Action Party" originally redirected to Democratic Action Party (Malaysia), but I've now changed it to redirect to this disambiguation page. If Democratic Action Party (Malaysia) is the primary topic then the "(Malaysia)" disambiguator is not needed. And if it's not the primary topic, then this page does not need the "(disambiguation)" in its title. Either way, Democratic Action Party should not be a redirect. Support per nom. Disagree? Ping me if you have an argument that one of the uses is primary. —В²C ☎ 05:11, 17 February 2019 (UTC)Persuaded otherwise. see below. —В²C ☎ 06:52, 5 March 2019 (UTC)- Support move over redirect. No primary topic. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 09:50, 17 February 2019 (UTC)
- Comment fyi, I've redirected Democratic Action Party back to Democratic Action Party (Malaysia) for now as there were too many incoming links to the dab page. If/when the dab page is moved, someone with AWB will need to repair those links. Bennv3771 (talk) 10:24, 17 February 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose the first proposal. The Malaysian party is the primary topic as can be seen in the overwhelming dominance in pageviews as well as in Google web search results and Google Books results. I invite previous participants to please provide reasoning that the Malaysian DAP is not primary if I've missed something. Support moving the Malaysian party to the base name. — AjaxSmack 17:10, 23 February 2019 (UTC) Pinging Born2cycle and Shhhnotsoloud:. — AjaxSmack 06:58, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
- Comment Paine is right that we should move either Democratic Action Party (disambiguation) or Democratic Action Party (Malaysia) to the base name. The only real challenge to Malaysia's primary topic status is Democratic Action (Venezuela), which is on a temporary peak due to current events. Malaysia has 90% of ghits for the exact phrase "Democratic Action Party" but page views are much closer, both long and short term, as are incoming wikilinks when comparing Malaysia against the total for all other countries. I think this one's marginal; it may be better to wait and revisit once Venezuela calms down. Certes (talk) 23:35, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
- When you choose a period when neither party is in the news like this, the Malaysian party gets over 5 times more views than the Venezuelan partial title match. "[W]ait and revisit once Venezuela calms down" sounds attractive but shouldn't matter per WP:NOTNEWS. — AjaxSmack 01:26, 25 February 2019 (UTC)
- Support. Generic party name, just like e.g. Conservative Party, Democratic Party, Labour Party, Liberal Party, Peoples' Party, Republican Party, and many others. No reason to think that any one such local party is WP:PTOPIC now or will be for ever. Page views are a very imprecise measure of notability, especially when they are the result of a redirect from a generic name to a specific name. What proportion of those people typing Democratic Action Party into the search box and landing on Democratic Action Party (Malaysia) were looking for some party or other on the other side of the world? You don't have to look too deeply into Special/What links here to Democratic Action Party to find a link which should be to Democratic Action (Venezuela), which may have been wrong (depending on all the page histories) since 2008. Narky Blert (talk) 03:07, 25 February 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose per AjaxSmack. Strong Support Democratic Action Party (Malaysia) → Democratic Action Party per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Not only is it PRIMARYTOPIC per AjaxSmack’s link to the page views, but the Google test confirms as well. —В²C ☎ 06:52, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
Unexpected move
[edit]The pages being discussed above seem to have moved, but I can't work out what has happened because some pages which moved were subsequently deleted. Over 170 templates with multiple transclusions broke today because they assume that Democratic Action Party is an article about (or a redirect to an article about) the Malaysian party. Unless there is a pressing need to move pages immediately, please can they be reinstated to the status quo ante until the RM closes? Thanks, Certes (talk) 22:29, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
- I've just retargeted the redirect to Democratic Action Party (Malaysia). Do you care to comment above? — AjaxSmack 22:40, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you. I've no position on the RM but will investigate, and comment if I can find something useful to say. Certes (talk) 22:52, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
