WikiProject class rating

[edit]

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot 15:24, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think Delonte West is already one of the best point guards in the league and only at 24. I still think he should get way more attention than he does right now.

What's that bruise under his lower lip? Is it permanent? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.232.244.195 (talk) 08:19, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

St. Joseph's of Pennsylvania

[edit]

I undid the changes that marked St. Joseph's University with St. Joseph's (PA) every time in this article. Please see your talk page and the talk page of Jameer Nelson. 140.247.15.13 (talk) 14:08, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Birth Mark

[edit]

i thought maybe there should be a mention of the prominent birth mark on his face, im not tryin to be mean but its sometimes mistaken for herpes or some type of rash, or people just dont know what it is maybe you could say in the early life section he was born with a prominent facial birthmark that is sometimes mistaken for blah blah blah --Redskies08 (talk) 11:52, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

College Information Issue

[edit]

It says his college season they were undefeated (27-1), but their record clearly indicates they were defeated once. Can someone clarify this issue?-- 16:48, 20 April 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.101.26.55 (talk)

2008-2009?!

[edit]

What the hell is with the 2008-2009 section, it looks like a magazine feature in SI for kids! does someone want to fix that please —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.52.114.209 (talk) 18:23, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gloria James rumor

[edit]

Come on. This rumor has no supporting evidence whatsoever - should not be mentioned until AND unless it has a credible source. Rumors don't belong here, especially ones so clearly made up. 66.57.254.204 (talk) 03:22, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

85.127.165.144 (talk · contribs) has recently added a citation to The Daily Inquirer (here). I've reverted the edit but please can you check it out to see whether you think it is credible? Thanks - Pointillist (talk) 22:55, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that article includes a citation of Terez Owens. Terez Owens includes a citation of an anonymous source. That source says that their uncle is a contractor at the Q and is the actual source. So the supposed uncle of a source of a source of a source says this happened. Uh, no, I don't think that's reliable. The train includes a sport gossip site I've never heard of - at the bottom of their "exclusive" is a link to another "story" that Gloria James has a history of sleeping with LeBron's friends. This appears to be the point of origin of the rumor - an anonymous source with no qualifications or info whatsoever, reporting to a sports gossip blog, that his uncle told him something. Personally, I don't think this should be mentioned on the article until a credible source comes forth - like someone with evidence, something other than hearsay. Maybe that's just me though. 66.57.254.204 (talk) 03:48, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
A cease and desist letter has now been sent to the aforementioned website "source". Here is the text of the letter (per TMZ, numerous sports-blogs).

From “Nance, Frederick R.”

Subject “GLORIA JAMES”

“Mr. Owens. I am the attorney for Gloria and LeBron James. I am writing to demand that you Cease and Desist in repeating the lies you have been instrumental in spreading regarding Gloria James. They are categorically false and per se defamatory. If you do not understand the legal significance of those facts, I strongly urge you to consult your legal counsel.

At first blush, your irresponsible speculation about what might have contributed to the Cavaliers performance in the Boston series was so idiotic and “off the wall” that we did not think that it even warranted a denial. No thinking person could possibly believe such rubbish. But you have persisted in repeating this nonsense, attributing it to an unidentified source all for your own personal gain. We demand that you immediately stop publishing or in any way repeating these false, despicable and per se defamatory statements.

Frederick R. Nance”

The first sentence of the second paragraph sums up my feelings. Now that there's been an actual response by the parties involved, there's some citable info, but I don't think this warrants mention on Delonte's page. Anyone out there that does? 66.57.254.204 (talk) 19:42, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There are definitely more interesting sources popping up now, but I might caution against inclusion until we know this thing has legs --i.e. it becomes something that is a serious part of his story as a notable person rather than say, a week of controversy that totally blows over. I have no opinion one way or the other at this moment in time; it's definitely interesting. --Bobak (talk) 20:17, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Just to follow up on what I'm referring to, this piece by the Orlando Sentinel online puts it view:

The rumor may not have much supporting evidence, but it has been reported on by numerous news outlets including USA Today, Huffington Post, Vice, and Sports Illustrated. I would argue that even today, the rumor is still notable enough for inclusion in this article. 69.54.63.217 (talk) 20:03, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

African?

[edit]

The man looks pale to me.

I'm pretty sure the dude's black. He sounds black.

And this article seems to confirm he's white.

Does it matter? His racial descent should be mentioned as a bit of trivia, nothing more; like the debate over whether Nietzche is polish or not. Besides, even if this *was* relevant, "white" and "African" are not mutally exclusive.The2crowrox (talk) 00:35, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Should be playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves, not the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Dallas Mavericks and Bipolar Disorder

[edit]

A new article is out on ESPN.com (http://espn.go.com/dallas/nba/story/_/id/7855842/dallas-mavericks-guard-delonte-west-puts-family-first) that brings much to light about the man's past and current situation. I would suggest adding this to the personal life section: "West manages Bipolar disorder with Seroquel." as well as this to his Legal Troubles section: "West claimed that after taking his dose of Seroquel, he went to sleep and was awakened by his mother, who told him about his friends having his guns out. Impulsively, and under the sedation of his medication, West gathered the firearms and drove down the highway with them on his Can-Am Spyder and was stopped after dozing off and on while driving." Also, I would add a new section, entitled Dallas Mavericks, including: "During the NBA lockout of 2011, West worked as a delivery truck driver. Following the lockout, he was signed to a one year, veteran's minimum deal with the Dallas Mavericks, arriving in Dallas with one pair of basketball shoes and sleeping in the locker room. After an injury to his finger, West returned to starting in the NBA in the shooting guard position for the Mavericks." All of this siting this ESPN.com article.

Needs more sources

[edit]

The article needs more sources and has been tagged accordingly. The material on West's NBA career needs a good deal of work; it currently consists of 18 paragraphs of text supported by only nine footnotes. SunCrow (talk) 02:01, 22 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As the article currently stands, I'd estimate that it needs 35-40 more footnotes. Some of the unsourced details on his NBA career could probably be trimmed; if that happens, perhaps it would only need 25-30 more footnotes. SunCrow (talk) 02:04, 22 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dropping a The Athletic article here. Mostly post-playing career (with a bit of info on his college career); at a glance I didn't spot anything new worth including, but it might have something. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 03:59, 15 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
