Company Name
[edit]Hi @Hsq7278:, isn't the company's name East India Company? Why is it being referred to as Honourable?
Rsrikanth05 (talk) 21:00, 28 April 2019 (UTC)
Hi,
The Honourable East India Company appears to be the full – or at least a common form – of the Company's name, (as are the initials HEIC) and is frequently seen in older sources. For example:
- it is the most common form used in the London Gazette;
- it is used extensively in Steward's War Medals and their History, see pages xviii and 9;
- it is used in many formal publications, such as Record of Services of the Honourable East India Company's Civil Servants
I hope this helps,

- Fair point, but per WP:COMMONNAME, it should be just EIC, right? --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 09:50, 29 April 2019 (UTC)
As I have no strong view on the matter I am content to use the shorter name, especially given WP:COMMONNAME.
