Opera?
[edit]Anthony Tommasini of The New York Times wrote in 2004: "Though Mr. Andriessen asserts this work is no opera, it was given its 1989 premiere at the Netherlands Opera as staged by Robert Wilson." Now, in 2016, he clearly describes it as an opera, as does his colleague Michael Cooper. The work's publisher, Boosey & Hawkes, lists the details in ther "Opera" section: http://www.boosey.com/pages/opera/moredetails.asp?musicid=6803. So, shouldn't we too categorise De Materie as opera? -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 18:30, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
- PS: Rebecca Mead in The New Yorker also describes it as "opera". -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 22:00, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
Yes it is an opera - referred to now as 'opera' by the composer. I am creating a page for "Theatre of the World" - his last opera and I want to put a list of Andriessen's operas somewhere. 'Theatre of the World' can only be number five if 'De Materie' is number one.Thelisteninghand (talk) 20:08, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
