[edit]Who remembers David L. Norton?
He was my first philosophy professor (in 1983) and set me on a path of self discovery that still continues today...rdp
RDP- Do you remember something he said that helped you find this path? -pdn
PDN - Something he said? I don't know if it was, "something he said" at the time. I was a business major who felt I was in the wrong field. Dr. Norton was a kind and funny teacher that seemed at the time happy that he had made a change from Civ Eng to philosophy. It was inspiring to meet someone who had the courage to so radically redefine their life in mid-stream. So I started reading, "Personal Destinies" in order to learn more about his philosophy. The book was (is) inspiring. Also, his compilation (Philosophies of Love) remains a favorite. He had a warmth in class that made learning a pleasure. It inspired in me a courage to continue to explore and seek my true calling and not give up. He was encouraging when I told him I was studying for the wrong profession. Despite the reality that this page says was his life, it was not the reality he projected when he formed and inspired students. Ultimately, I think that is more important in some ways. All of the personal turmoil may be true, but the serenity and he projected (for us students) was necessary for the position he held (as a spiritual guide). Does this make sense?..rdp (10/30/06)
