  • Someone vandalized the awards section with a Garraud interview taken from context...

Dyl HSushi (talk) 14:18, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Why is Guetta mentioned as a Moroccan jewish DJ? He's French and born in Paris, that's easily verifiable, what's the source for him being a Moroccan jew? And what is the point of mentioning it at all, is it a major influence on his music or life as an artist? I vote to remove the reference, if anything and if it can be sourced, include biographical info about the origin of his parents to adress his background -- as in: ``Guetta was born to Moroccan jewish parents. Though I really don't see the relevance, had his parents been Swedish hindus (random example), would the entry read `a French and Swedish hindu DJ'??? Rruitenberg (talk) 10:05, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rruitenberg I believe you don't know the idea behind the whole "Moroccan Jews" mentioning, I suggest you read the article regarding the Jewish diaspora and the whole French giving their colonies citizenship and then you'll see why it's so important to mention this, it is VERY different from saying "He was born to Swedish Hindus" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.138.100.44 (talk) 21:08, 12 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rruitenberg. I'm guessing you're French. I am, too. However this is the English-speaking Wikipedia. Hence the emphasis on ethnicity. However you are right and 89.138.100.44 is wrong. If we are to write that he is a Moroccan Jew, then we should write that is Bulgarian Belgian, too. "A Moroccan Jewish Bulgarian Belgian French DJ".95.34.7.144 (talk) 14:34, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

add to article

[edit]

there are many new sources verifying the controversy, and even the Broward Palm Beach Newspaper, and a highly respected online journal in House Planet reported on it... check the sources, and there are follow up interviews with joachim garraud and tocadisco, 2 of david's confidents. there is also a video on davidguetta.com called 'everytime we touch v2' which clearly shows joachim garraud sitting at the studio controls with david simply watching on not playing a note consistent with the citations below. [1]

In 2008, he was elected as World DJ No. 5 and best house DJ by the British DJ Mag.[2], however, this ranking and his repûtation is under media and public scrutiny after it was revealed that David Guetta, despite public interviews noting that it was him alone composing and producing his work[3] was 'neither a musician nor a technicial' and that at the time of the release of albums "Just A Little More Love" and "Guetta Blaster", according to credited co-producer Joachim Garraud whom takes credit for the composition and programming of both albums[4], David "did not even own or know how to use a computer". [5][6].One article dissects and compares his situation to that of Milli Vanilli as the face but not talent behind the music they perfom, and includes damning interviews of Guetta collaborators Joachim Garraud, DJ Tocadisco.[7] —Preceding unsigned comment added by [[User:|User:]] ([[User talk:|talk]] • contribs)

Precise time of birth?

[edit]

"David Guetta (born 6:37 p.m. On the 7 November 1967 in Paris)" Is this degree of accuracy genuinely needed? It makes the opening line of the article look quite silly. 86.16.129.70 (talk) 16:33, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There appears to be some confusion now. In the past this page said he was born in 1967, currently the page says he was born in 1963 and it also mentions that he was 13 in 1976 which matches a birth year of 1963. However, every single other reference I can find to his date of birth says 7 November 1967, including imdb.com and david-guetta.info. So which is it? 196.211.0.76 (talk) 20:24, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

it also says he was born in paris in the top right hand info box but then later in the article it says he was born in Montguyon... nowhere near paris :L —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.148.206.131 (talk) 00:08, 17 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation of "Guetta"?

The current article says the French pronunciation of David Guetta is [daˌviːd ɡooɛˈtta].

I don't know who came up with this (English speaker? Francophone?), but this is wrong. It's actually [daˌviːd gɛˈta]. There's no oo sound.

Does every Francophone agree?

Early life

[edit]

The son of a Moroccan Jewish restaurant and a Belgian mother [1], David has always said French, although it is of Moroccan origin. Guetta began studying music at the age of 17 years as a disc jockey in Parisian nightclubs like the Factory. It is a law student at the same time [2].

It begins with the play and mix Broad, a disco gay of Halles in central Paris. At the time, in clubs, the DJ was mixing hidden from the public:

When I started in Paris, the DJ was an anonymous, a nobody. One day I went to London, and saw that there, where the House music card already, all the lights were trained on him. I invested all my savings in hard electro and on my return, I contracted with the owners of boxes that employs me, I waive my fee but in return I do my own programming and my own promo

, says he [3]. He sympathizes with Kien (head of production and now SMSO artist in the mid HIPHOP / SLAM) who also works at Broad and spotted his talent in the early evening acid house. The Broad becoming too small with the success of these evenings, Kien starts the following season when , evenings weeklyUnityin Rex Club with David Guetta at the controls of eight DJ confirmed that Didier Sinclair .

His first television appearance took place on FR3 January 8, 1991 in comedy entertainment show The Class . He then mixes the titleNationwith Rap Sidney [4]. David Guetta and Kien then launch partiesPrincess Of The Worldat the old Central Queen and evening House.

In early 1990, Kien and David Guetta are the artistic direction of the new club'Folies Pigalle, a former cabaret in Pigalle. The press became interested in buzz created in the Pigalle cabaret, high place of the prostitution, transformed into a dancefloor. The Pigalle district is gradually becoming flashy and arty, dedicated to music and new sounds parallel. Thus, the Black Ball, the Elysee-Montmartre or even the mythical Black Catof Aristide Bruant become so many concert halls and clubs in fashion, draining a lot more numerous. Two years later, Philippe Fatien uses them for the art direction on the occasion of the opening of the Queen on the Champs-Elysees.

French House

[edit]

Umm excuse me? David Guetta is NOT a French House DJ. He has never been among them. The type of house he is doing is Disco House or Ibiza House. Anything but French House which has a very distinct sound and depth that is clearly lacking in Guetta's music.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Trickymaster (talkcontribs) 03:19, 28 December 2011 (UTC) Just a little more is French House and any songs from his second and third album studio are French House.[reply]

Reliable sources that discuss (in prose) Guetta's style

So it looks like "house" has the highest ghits rating, followed by pop and electro. All the others have fewer hits. The prose sources seem to show that EDM, house and pop are widely discussed. Binksternet (talk) 05:29, 26 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It's possible "house" has the highest hits because people might want to find out about David Guetta's house, which may not be related to the genre house. - TheMagnificentist 13:20, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"Grandfather of EDM"

[edit]

Can I please attempt to get consensus to remove this crap from the lede? It was reported in ABC nightline in a pathetic attempt to whitewash the history of dance music and was rightly rebuked by multiple sources who are actually familiar with the history such as [1], [2] [3] [4] [5]. We should not be repeating this in Wikipedia's voice. – filelakeshoe (t / c) 🐱 07:34, 5 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Moroccan

[edit]

Can someone provide a reliable published source that explicity says that David Guetta has dual French-Moroccan citizenship? Otherwise this is WP:SYNTHESIS. (CC) Tbhotch 17:25, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Just read the sources, he has a Moroccan father, and accluding to the Moroccan law, he automatically got the Moroccan nationality because of his father. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.21.157.14 (talkcontribs)

No, if I gave a link to WP:SYNTHESIS is because you have to read it before making such theories and getting such conclusions. (CC) Tbhotch 00:47, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

For the record, I created a discussion at Wikipedia:No original research/Noticeboard#David Guetta. (CC) Tbhotch 00:47, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I moved it as well to the Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard#David Guetta, where other users said it is recommened to be excluded until there are sources that explicity verify Guetta is French-Moroccan. (CC) Tbhotch 21:50, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:WikiProject Songs has an RFC for the use of radio station/networks' playlists being cited in articles. A discussion is taking place. Record sales

[edit]

Hello fellow Wikipedians, I need your help, apparently, based on David Guetta's available certified sales, he is eligible to be included to the list of best-selling music artists, tho we have a problem, I couldn't find any article that explicitly says that he has sold 75 million records ww, all of them were either 50 or 40 million, if there's any article that mentions that he has sold 75 million records, it'd be highly appreciated if you'd bring it here so that we could use it as a source for Guetta's claimed sales.
