There's an error here. The article states that the award was originally given to the outstanding player in the now-defunct Southwest Conference, and that Billy Sims was a winner under this criterion. But Sims played at Oklahoma, which at that time was a member of the Big 8 Conference, not the SWC. -posted by dauphid |
