See Also section

[edit]

I have removed the link to List of Major League Baseball leaders in career stolen bases from the see also section, because his career number of 183 does not make him close to being included in the list. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 00:47, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @Athomeinkobe:. I believe the cutoff for that list was increased, which is why he's no longer on it. – Muboshgu (talk) 13:38, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm happy to begin reviewing this in the next few days. EricEnfermero (Talk) 12:49, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

After an initial readthrough, this looks good and I think it will be a straightforward review. The article seems robustly sourced and there are no apparent copyvios.

Early life

[edit]
  • Would it be better to mention his parents' nationality here rather than in Personal Life? No big deal, but the first para of this section is a little thin anyway.
  • We have three sentences in a row with "___________'s baseball team". I would try to phrase one of those differently.

Professional career

[edit]
  • Martinez was the 1985 Carolina League batting leader (by a landslide). He had a pretty rapid rise from Class A to MLB, so that might help to put it in context.
  • There are a few seasons that aren't really covered in the body. I would try to give at least some stats for each season. He had a pretty good '87 season, hitting .292. His average did fall in 1988, but I would clarify that it was only to .255. 1993 and 1994 particularly stick out to me. He did get injured and get released, but I would mention stats because he played >90 games in each of those seasons.
  • Fifth paragraph: "but saw an increase in playing time when he was replaced by Terry Bevington" - change to "when Lamont was replaced..."
  • "In addition to signing in Florida, he was enticed by the Rays' additions" - does this mean he was attracted to playing in the state of Florida?
  • The next sentence: "first hit" - change to "the first hit".
  • "First and only time" - change to "only time"

Coaching career

[edit]

We should be able to pass this once we address this feedback. Thanks for your work on this. It's always great to see a GA nom for a player who has had a long career in baseball but who isn't thought of as a perennial All-Star or a Hall of Famer. GA review (see here for what the criteria are, and here for what they are not)

I nearly forgot to come back to this, but I am passing it. I am going to add a couple of season stat lines, but the article is not really missing any major aspects and the nominator did a great job of addressing the feedback.

  1. It is reasonably well written.
a (prose, no copyvios, spelling and grammar): b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (reference section): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
  6. It is illustrated by images and other media, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free content have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
No images to worry about; as he is an active coach, maybe someone will get one this season.
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
    Nice work! EricEnfermero (Talk) 02:47, 23 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I was about to come back to finish this off, but I'm sure I can still find ways to improve it. – Muboshgu (talk) 14:16, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Dave Martinez

[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Dave Martinez's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

He's called Davey Martinez about half the time. That link should exist as a redirect to this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.173.218.150 (talk) 01:10, 16 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
