[edit]

In full disclosure I am a staffer for Congressman Lipinski. I have a few requests for additional information to be displayed on his page, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Lipinski. I had been working with one of the page's editors but he told me he's been very busy and hasn't responded in a while. Please note I am not trying to promote the Congressman, but trying to portray a more accurate and well-rounded picture of him.

The congressman's page is focused almost entirely on his record on socially conservative issues. There are very few mentions of issues where he is more traditionally aligned with the Democratic Party. I think it's important to add some of these so readers know why he's a Democrat and why he has voted with his party 87% of the time since's he's been in Congress. [1]

For one thing, he is a stalwart environmentalist and introduced the first carbon fee bill 10 years ago [2]

He also has a lifetime score of 90% from the league of conservation voters. [3]

On gun issues, he has a F from the NRA. [4]

He has also been a longtime supporter of unions and the labor movement and has a 91% lifetime rating from the AFL_CIO [5]

While it's certainly fair to point out his positions on hot button issues like abortion and same sex marriage, I think it's equally fair to also point out his position on another hot button issue like the environment.

It seems incomplete to only highlight his positions on abortion, Barack Obama (?), the economy, foreign policy (which only covers Hong Kong), Healthcare, Immigration (he voted for the DREAM act earlier this month but there's no mention of that [6]) and LGBTQ issues (He also voted for the Equality Act last month but there's no mention [7]).

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I appreciate your consideration. Lipinskistaff (talk) 19:07, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  Unable to review edit request

  • Thank you for providing the verbatim text and locations, that was much appreciated.
  • Unfortunately, your edit request still cannot be reviewed because the provided references are not formatted correctly. The citation style predominantly used by the Dan Lipinski article is Citation Style 1 (CS1). The citation style used in the edit request consists of bare URL's.[a] Any requested edit of yours which may be implemented will need to resemble the current style already in use in the article – in this case, CS1. In the extended section below titled Citation style, I have illustrated two examples: one showing how the edit request was submitted, and another showing how requests should be submitted in the future:
Citation style
Bare URL reference formatting:

The Sun's diameter is 864,337 miles,[1] while the Moon's diameter is 2,159 miles.[2] The Sun's temperature is 5,778 degrees Kelvin.[3]

References

1. https://www.booksource.com
2. http://www.journalsource.com
3. http://www.websource.com

In the example above there are three URL's provided with the claim statements, but these URL's have not been placed using Citation Style 1, which is the style predominantly used by the Dan Lipinski article. Using this style, the WikiFormatted text should resemble the following:

Citation Style 1 formatting:

The Sun's diameter is 864,337 miles,<ref>{{cite book|last1=Sjöblad|first1=Tristan|title=The Sun|url=http://www.booksource.com|publisher=Academic Press|date=2018|page=1}}</ref> while the Moon's diameter is 2,159 miles.<ref>{{cite journal|last1=Harinath|first1=Paramjit|title=Size of the Moon|journal=Science|issue=78|volume=51|url=http://www.journalsource.com|date=2018|page=46}}</ref> The Sun's temperature is 5,778 degrees Kelvin.<ref>{{cite web|last1=Uemura|first1=Shu|title=The Sun's Heat|url=http://www.websource.com|publisher=Academic Press|date=2018|page=2}}</ref>

Displays as:

The Sun's diameter is 864,337 miles,[1] while the Moon's diameter is 2,159 miles.[2] The Sun's temperature is 5,778 degrees Kelvin.[3]

  3. ^ Uemura, Shū. The Sun's Heat. Academic Press, 2018, p. 2.

In the example above the references have been formatted according to Citation Style 1, which shows the author, the source's name, date, etc., all information which is lost when only the links are provided. As Wikipedia is a volunteer project, edit requests such yours are generally expected to have this formatting done before the request is submitted for review.

Kindly rewrite your edit request so that it aligns more with the second example shown in the collapsed section above, and feel free to re-submit that edit request at your earliest convenience. If you have any questions about this formatting please don't hesitate to ask myself or another editor. Regards,  Spintendo  18:04, 26 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Notes

  1. ^ The use of bare URLs as references is a style which is acceptable for use in Wikipedia. However, general practice dictates that the style already in use for an article be the one that is subsequently used for all future additions unless changed by editorial consensus.[1]

Proposal review 27-SEP-2019

Despite his social conservatism, Lipinski has voted with the Democratic Party 87% of the time since he's been in Congress.
Clarification needed.[note 1]

Lipinski has a lifetime score of 90% from the League of Conservation Voters, an F grade from the National Rifle Association, and a 91% lifetime rating from the AFL-CIO.
Clarification needed.[note 2]

Clarification needed.[note 4]

___________

  1. ^ It is not known what is meant by the term social conservatism.
  2. ^ Although the main terms have been WikiLinked, the supplementary terms, including "lifetime score", "F grade", and "lifetime rating" have not been Wikilinked. Not having these terms Wikilinked or else explained in some fashion leaves their descriptions bereft of meaning.
  3. ^ These claims were originally asked to provide additional references which verified their contents. The additional reference thus provided was merely a US Elections Guide, when WP:SECONDARY sources are to be preferred. Additionally, the quoted phrase does not contain proper attribution (e.g., "According to authors Michael Barone and Richard Cohen, the District has been described as[a] 'ancestrally Democratic, culturally conservative, multiethnic and viscerally patriotic'").
  4. ^ The mentioned Act's references are now correctly formatted according to WP:CS1, but the Acts themselves are not WikiLinked.

Notes

  1. ^ The phrase "has been described as" should be used if the district is being described that way not by the authors, but by others collectively according to the author's research; otherwise, the phrase "is described as" should be used if the district is being described directly that way by the authors themselves.

Leaving office

[edit]

Lipinski will apparently leave office at the end of this term, after losing a primary to another candidate (Newman). This is mentioned way at the end of the intro section. I'd like to move this to just after the 1st paragraph unless someone objects. There will obviously have to be an update when he leaves office either way. Newman won the general election for the seat last week so I'll mention that in the existing paragraph. I don't know if it was seriously contested by the other party. 2602:24A:DE47:BB20:50DE:F402:42A6:A17D (talk) 19:15, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced Death Info

[edit]

I have reverted an unsourced edit which claimed that Lipinski recently died. If in fact, Lipinski is dead, a reliable source needs to be cited for that information.--TommyBoy (talk) 02:42, 6 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
